記者「荒木さんが就農したきっかけや、現在の研修生の受け入れについて教えてください。」

荒木さん「私が就農したきっかけは中学生の頃に起こった出来事でした。その当時、実家ではジャガイモ農家をしていましたが、牧場見学に行った際に牛の魅力に取りつかれてしまいました。それを機に農業高校へ進学し、さらに牛の人工授精の免許を取得するために長崎県の改良センターで研修を受けました。人工授精の資格を取得し、38年前に牧場経営を始めたのです。」


記者「現在は研修生を受け入れているとのことですが、その背景について教えていただけますか。」

荒木さん「そうですね、私の息子夫婦も一緒に経営に携わっていますが、研修生の受け入れは25年前から行っています。当時は息子が生まれたばかりで、自分の経験や知識を若い世代に伝えたいと思い始めました。研修を経て立派な後継者となった生徒も多く、中には島で指導員として活躍する者や、牛飼いの仕事に就く者もいます。若い世代が農業の魅力を感じ、将来の道を見つける手助けができるのは嬉しいですね。」


記者「研修生はどのような形で受け入れているのですか？」

荒木さん「研修生は基本的に農業を学びに来る学生が多いです。彼らはまだ学生ですので、家の仕事を少しかじった程度の経験しかありません。でも、ここでの経験が彼らの将来に大きな影響を与えることを期待しています。機械操作や大規模な作業に触れることで、農業の魅力や可能性を感じることができるでしょう。遊びに来たのではなく、しっかりと学びに来ているという意識を持ってもらうことが大切です。」


記者「長崎の諫早干拓が畜産に与える影響についてはどうお考えですか？」

荒木さん「諫早干拓は広大な土地を有効利用するプロジェクトで、野菜や畜産の分野で大きな成果を上げています。広大な面積を機械で作業することが可能になり、効率が格段に向上しました。干拓事業があったおかげで、元々4頭しかいなかった牛が今の規模にまで増やせたのです。干拓がなければ、現在の牧場運営は考えられませんでした。自給率もほぼ100パーセントに近く、安心して畜産を行うことができています。」

Araki: "My reason for starting farming was something that happened when I was in junior high school. At the time, my family was a potato farmer, but when I visited a farm, I fell in love with cows. That prompted me to go on to agricultural high school, and then I went to train at the Nagasaki Prefectural Breeding Center to get a license to artificially inseminate cows. After I got my qualifications, I started running my own farm 38 years ago."


Reporter: "I understand that you are currently accepting trainees, but can you tell us about the background to that?"

Reporter: How do you accept trainees?

Araki-san: Most of the trainees are students who come to learn about agriculture. They're still students, so They only have a little experience with household chores. But we hope that their experience here will have a big impact on their future. By operating machinery and experiencing large-scale work, they will be able to feel the charm and possibilities of agriculture. It is important that they realize that they are not here to play, but to learn. ”


Reporter: “What do you think about the impact of the Isahaya Reclamation Project in Nagasaki on livestock farming?”

Araki: “The Isahaya Reclamation Project is a project to make effective use of vast areas of land, and has achieved great results in the fields of vegetables and livestock farming. It has become possible to work on vast areas with machinery, and efficiency has increased. It has improved dramatically. Thanks to the land reclamation project, we were able to increase the number of cows from four to the current size. Without the land reclamation, the current ranch operation would have been unthinkable. The self-sufficiency rate is almost 100%, and we can raise livestock with peace of mind. "

荒木さん「購入飼料から自給飼料に切り替えることで、少しずつ成績が向上しています。息子たちも配合の割合や種類を工夫しています。自給飼料に慣れることで、成績がさらに上がると期待しています。また、天気や草の出来具合にも影響されるので、その点をしっかり管理していきたいです。今年は天気に恵まれて良い草が取れたので、成績も良くなると思います。」


記者「おすすめのアイテムについて教えてください。」

荒木さん「牛のオスが生まれた場合に使う去勢道具です。研修で来ていた深江町の林田さんから教わって、自分で溶接して作った道具で、睾丸2個を一度に去勢できるニコイチ式の道具です。以前は一個一個手でねじって切っていたので時間がかかり、牛にもストレスがかかっていましたが、これを使うことで作業時間が短縮され、牛にも優しいです。本当に画期的な道具だと思っています。」

We are currently trying to switch from purchased feed to self-produced feed. My sons are also working hard to come up with new ideas, and the cows are doing better. Once they get used to self-produced feed, I think their performance will improve a little more."


Reporter: "What specific actions do you want to take?"

Araki: "By switching from purchased feed to self-produced feed, we can gradually The results are improving. My sons are also trying different ratios and types of feed. I expect that by getting used to self-produced feed, their results will improve even more. Also, the weather and the quality of the grass will have an effect, so I want to keep a close eye on that. This year, we were blessed with good weather and good grass, so I think the results will improve. ”


Reporter: “What items do you recommend?”

Araki: “It’s a castration tool used when a male cow is born. I learned about it from Hayashida-san from Fukae-cho, who was here for training, and I welded it myself. It’s a two-in-one tool that can castrate two testicles at once. Previously, we had to twist and cut each one by hand, which took a lot of time and was stressful for the cows, but using this tool has reduced the work time and is gentle on the cows. I think it's a truly revolutionary tool.

荒木さん「新規就農を目指す人にとって、牛の価格や相場のタイミングが重要です。現在は牛の価格が非常に安い状況ですが、逆に今が始めるチャンスとも言えます。5年ほど前、価格が高かった時期には後継者も多く育ち、牛の数も増やせました。しかし、現在は飼料や資材の高騰があり、採算が合わない時期です。それでも、今から始めるなら、低コストで始める工夫が必要です。例えば、使われていない牛舎を借りたり、中古の機械を利用したりして、初期投資を抑えることが重要です。」


記者「施設や機械への投資が多いと言われますが、牛への投資が大事という考え方についてはいかがですか？」

荒木さん「そうですね、機械や施設はお金を払ってくれませんが、牛はしっかりした収入源になります。特に、妊娠牛を安く購入することが最適だと思います。コストもあまりかからず、結果も早く出ます。初産で失敗することも少なく、値段も手頃です。私はこの方法で牛を増やしてきましたが、新規就農者にもこのやり方をお勧めします。」


記者「座右の銘はありますか？」

荒木さん「中学の時に教師の先生から教わった『らしき人たれ』です。これは、大人は大人らしく、子供は子供らしく、男は男らしく、女は女らしくという意味です。それぞれの立場で、その役割にふさわしい人であることが大切だと教わりました。新規就農者も、学ぶ姿勢を大事にしながら、自分の役割を果たしていくことが大事です。そして、ベテランになったら次の世代に教えることを意識してほしいです。どの仕事も年相応な役割を果たすべきであり、そうなるのは心がけ次第です。」

Reporter: “They say that there is a lot of investment in facilities and machinery, but what do you think about the idea that it is important to invest in cows?”

Araki: “Yes, machinery and facilities do not pay for it, but cows are a solid source of income. In particular, I think it is best to buy pregnant cows cheaply. It does not cost much and you get results quickly. There are few failures in the first birth, and the price is reasonable. I have increased the number of cows using this method, and I recommend it to new farmers as well. "


Reporter: "Do you have a motto?"

Araki: "My teacher taught me in middle school that it's "Be like a person you're supposed to be." This means that adults should act like adults, children should act like children, men should act like men, and women should act like women. I was taught that it's important to be a person who is appropriate for each role. It's also important for new farmers to value their learning attitude and fulfill their roles. And when they become veterans, I want them to be conscious of teaching the next generation. Every job should be appropriate for the role of their age, and it's up to the mindset to do so."

藤田さん「私自身が削蹄師をしているからというのもありますが、まず、牛の足元を観察することで健康状態を確認します。個体によっては爪が伸びやすい、変形している牛がいたりします。これらの状態を常にチェックしながら、牛の健康をサポートすることが重要です。例えば、爪が長い牛がいた場合、その牛が若い頃に病気をしたのか、生まれつきなのかを考えます。それに応じて、餌の量を調整したり、添加剤を使ったりします。このように、牛一頭一頭の健康状態に応じて適切な対応を取ることが私たちのこだわりです。」


記者「餌や堆肥の部分でこだわられているポイントについて教えてください。」

藤田さん「はい。まず、完熟堆肥を使って自家牧草を作ることで、餌の質を向上させています。自家牧草の質が高いと受胎率が高くなるようで、うちでは受胎率はそのように改善してきました。また、完熟堆肥を使用することで、自給率がアップし、肥料代も節約できます。この方法は地元の農家さんから教えてもらい、実際に取り入れてみたところ、非常にうまくいきました。牛の健康を保ちながらコストを抑えることができています。」

Fujita: "I'm a hoof trimmer myself, so I first check the health of the cows by observing their feet. Some cows have claws that tend to grow long or are deformed. It's important to constantly check these conditions and support the health of the cows. For example, if we see a cow with long claws, we think about whether the cow had an illness when it was young or was born with it. Depending on the result, we adjust the amount of feed or use additives. In this way, we pay close attention to the health of each cow. Our focus is to respond appropriately according to the situation."


Reporter: "Please tell us about the points you focus on when it comes to feed and compost."

Fujita: "Yes. First of all, we improve the quality of the feed by using fully ripened compost to grow our own pasture. It seems that higher quality pasture grass increases the conception rate, and we have improved our conception rate in this way. Also, by using fully ripened compost, we can increase our self-sufficiency rate and save on fertilizer costs. We learned about this method from a local farmer, and when we actually tried it out, it worked very well. We are able to keep costs down while keeping the cows healthy. ."


Reporter: "I heard you're also particular about observational skills. What are the specific points you observe?"

Fujita: "Yes, observational skills are also very important. For example, in order not to miss the timing of parturition or estrus, I go behind the cow first thing in the morning and watch her while she's eating. I check the movement of her tail and the condition of her genitals, so as not to miss any signs of estrus. I also carefully observe the estrus cycle after parturition and try to respond at the appropriate time. If I miss estrus, I have to wait 20 days until the next opportunity, so it's important not to miss it."

記者「他に牛の管理で気をつけている点はありますか？」

Fujita: "Right now, I am exchanging information with farmers in Takashima. I am getting advice from them on feeding and management methods, and putting it into practice. Specifically, I would like to introduce a method called gastric juice transplantation. This is a method of transplanting the stomach contents of a healthy calf into a sick calf to improve the intestinal environment and improve health. I hope that this will reduce diarrhea and increase feed intake."


Reporter: "Is there anything else you pay attention to when managing your cows?"

Fujita: "Yes, observation is very important. I observe the condition of the cows every morning and make sure I don't miss the timing of estrus and delivery. I am also particular about the choice of feed. In particular, for raising calves, I use a feed called Luminoscratch, which is high in protein. This has the effect of stimulating the stomach and aiding digestion. If the calves eat well during the nursing period, they will not have diarrhea even when they enter the growing period and will gain weight, so care during this period is very important. I have tried various additives to improve the quality of the cattle, but this product has been the best for me. It has a high palatability, and some cattle eat too much and get diarrhea because of that, but I cover that with a bacteria regulator while giving it to them. ”

記者「稲本侑紀さんの実績について教えていただけますか？」

Fujita: “My role model is Inamoto Yuki. Yuki is very considerate of his juniors and his wife. For example, even when we go out drinking or to Takashima, he always treats me with sincerity. He is like a big brother in the community and is loved by everyone.”


Reporter: “Can you tell me about Inamoto Yuki’s achievements?”

Fujita: “His cattle are always highly evaluated. They have won prizes in competitions such as the Kyoshinkai, and are highly evaluated by buyers. What is amazing about him is that no matter how much he cuts costs, the quality does not decrease. He also constantly adopts new techniques, and I learned how to do stomach juice transplants from him. ”

Reporter: “What is your motto?”

Fujita: “My motto is ‘spirit and guts’. Because I work with animals, every day is a constant change. That’s why there are some aspects that you can’t face without passion. And guts are also necessary. It’s important to do a lot of work to learn how to care for cows, artificial insemination, and other techniques. The cows get violent and there’s a lot of physical work, so guts are necessary to keep going without giving up. It’s also important to have friends. Having friends helps you improve yourself and leads to improved skills. Finally, the cows themselves represent our efforts, so we value both the cows and our friends.”

記者「有働さんの畜産に関しての技術的なこだわりについて教えてください。」

有働さん「我々はもう40年ぐらいこの仕事をやってきました。最初にこの道に入った時には全てが技術だったんです。昔の人たちはその技術を見て覚えることが当たり前で、良い仕事は他人の仕事を盗むことで成り立っていました。見て、盗んで、そして自分のものにする。それが技術の伝承の仕方だったんです。」

記者「削蹄に関しても技術が問われる場面が多いと思いますが、その点について詳しく教えてください。」

有働さん「削蹄は非常に技術が必要です。昔は単独保定を行っていました。これは牛を枠に入れず、自分の体で固定して蹄を切る方法です。若い頃は体力があったので問題ありませんでしたが、60歳を過ぎた頃から体力的に厳しくなり、枠場保定に変えました。蹄を削る技術も経験と共に身につけていきます。」


記者「削蹄の際に難しいと感じる部分はどのようなところですか。」

有働さん「蹄を見てどれだけ削れるか、どこの蹄をどの程度削れば牛が楽に立てるか、歩行がスムーズになるかを見極めるのが難しいです。仕上がり具合を常に確認しながら作業を進めます。これは家畜の健康を守るために重要な作業で、蹄が伸びすぎると寝起きや歩行に支障が出るので、その負担を少しでも軽減するのが私たちの仕事です。」


記者「削蹄の仕事においてやりがいを感じる瞬間はどのような時ですか。」

有働さん「年に一度、九州大会や全国大会に参加する機会があります。自分の技術がどれほどのレベルなのかを試す場です。上位に入賞するとやはり嬉しいですし、自分の技術が認められたことにやりがいを感じます。こうした大会での経験が技術向上にも繋がります。」


記者「削蹄を始めようと思ったきっかけは何だったのでしょうか。」

有働さん「40年前の話になりますが、当時、南部の畜産農協にプロの削蹄師がいませんでした。そのため、周囲から『ぜひやってほしい』と推薦されたことがきっかけです。それ以来、削蹄の技術を磨き続けてきました。」

Reporter: "Please tell us about your technical commitment to livestock farming."

Udo: "We've been doing this work for about 40 years now. When I first started out, it was all about technique. In the past, it was natural for people to learn techniques by watching, and good work was achieved by stealing the work of others. Watch, steal, and make it your own. That's how techniques were passed down."

Reporter: "I think there are many situations in which technique is required when it comes to hoof trimming. Please tell us more about that."

Udo: "Hoof trimming requires a lot of skill. In the past, people would do it alone. I used restraints. This is a method of cutting the hooves by holding the cow in place with my body, without putting it in a frame. When I was younger, I had a lot of stamina, so it wasn't a problem, but after I turned 60, it became physically difficult, so I switched to frame restraints. I also acquired the skill to trim hooves with experience.

Reporter: "What do you find difficult about trimming hooves?"

Udo: "It's difficult to look at the hooves and determine how much can be trimmed, and which parts of the hooves need to be trimmed so that the cow can stand comfortably and walk smoothly. I always check the progress as I work. This is an important task to protect the health of livestock. If the hooves grow too long, it can cause problems when the animal wakes up or walks, so our job is to reduce that burden as much as possible.

Reporter: "When do you feel a sense of accomplishment in your work as a hoof trimmer?"

Udo: "Once a year, we have the opportunity to participate in the Kyushu and national competitions. It's a chance to test the level of my skills. I'm happy when I win a prize, and I feel rewarded that my skills have been recognized. The experience of participating in these competitions also leads to improved skills."

Reporter: "What made you decide to start hoof trimming?"

Udo: "40 years ago, Back then, there were no professional hoof trimmers at the livestock cooperative in the south. So people around me recommended that I do it. Since then, I have been honing my hoof trimming skills. ”

記者「牛の状態に点数をつけるなら何点でしょうか？」

有働さん「今飼っている牛たちの点数をつけるなら、70点くらいでしょうか。良い点としては、下痢をしにくく、健康状態を保ちやすいことです。エサの管理もしっかりしていて、体調を崩しにくいようにしています。」

有働さん「下痢や病気にかかりづらいところですかね。モネンシン入りのエサを与えることで、牛の発育を良くしています。それが70点の理由です。」

有働さん「悪い点としては、体が大きくならない牛がいることです。これは生まれつきの問題もあり、どうしても改善が難しい部分です。しかし、繁殖時に健康で元気な子牛が生まれるように工夫しています。また、受胎率が低いことも問題です。発情のサインがわかりにくい牛が多いので、発情管理をしっかり行うことが必要です。」


記者「受胎率の改善に向けて、どのような対策を行っていますか。」

有働さん「分娩前の増し飼いですね。あとは受胎率の改善も大事です。受胎率の改善は難しいですが、発情のタイミングを見極めることが重要だと考えています。」

Udo: “If I were to rate the cows I have now, I would give them about 70 points. The good thing about them is that they don’t get diarrhea, so they’re easy to keep healthy. I also manage their feed well, so they don’t get sick easily.”

Udo: "I think it's because they are less susceptible to diarrhea and disease. By feeding them food containing monensin, we improve the growth of the cows. That's why we gave them a score of 70."


Reporter: "Please tell us about the bad points and areas you would like to improve."

Udo: "The bad point is that some of the cows don't grow big. This is an innate problem, and it is difficult to improve. However, we are working to ensure that healthy, energetic calves are born during breeding. Another problem is the low conception rate. Many of the cows have difficult-to-detect signs of estrus, so it is necessary to carefully manage their estrus. "


Reporter: "What measures are you taking to improve conception rates?"

Udo: "Increasing the amount of feed before calving. Also, improving conception rates is important. Improving conception rates is difficult, but I think it's important to determine the timing of estrus."

記者「削蹄師の数は昔と比べてどうでしょうか。」

有働さん「熊本では昔からそれほど変わっていません。仕事の量が限られているので、増えても意味がないんです。若い弟子が少しずつ増えていますが、20代の若者が一番若い世代です。昔からの削蹄師が教えを伝えている形ですね。」


記者「今の削蹄師の現状について教えてください。」

有働さん「今は道具も発展していて、グラインダーなどの外国の技術も取り入れています。ヨーロッパやアメリカの技術が特に参考になります。以前、アメリカから来たカールバギーさんという方が、病気の処置の仕方を教えてくれました。それまで、蹄病は獣医の仕事だと思っていたのですが、彼の指導で削蹄師もケアできるようになりました。このように、削蹄の技術も進化してきました。」


記者「削蹄師としての責任も増えてきたのですね。」

有働さん「そうですね。定期的に蹄を切ることで病気のリスクを減らすことができます。これは削蹄師の重要な役割です。カールバギーさんから学んだ技術も大きな影響を与えました。今では病気の予防も削蹄師の責任の一部と考えています。」

記者「最後に、座右の銘を教えていただけますか。」

有働さん「私の座右の銘は『初志貫徹』です。削蹄を始めた頃の気持ちを大事にしています。牛に対する感覚を大切にし、牛に嫌がられないように接することが大事です。40年前、15歳でこの仕事を始めた時から変わらない思いです。これからもこの気持ちを忘れずに、牛が気持ちよく育つように努めていきたいと思っています。」

Udo: "There weren't many hoof trimmers in the past. During and after the war, horses were the main source of power, so the skill of trimming horse hooves was important. However, when it comes to trimming cow hooves, there are many specialized books. There were few, and it was hard to learn the techniques. Nowadays, the Hoof Trimming Association publishes textbooks that explain in detail the physiology and ecology of cows, but there was nothing like that in the past.


Reporter: "How do the numbers of hoof trimmers compare to the past?"

Udo: "In Kumamoto, it hasn't changed much since the old days. The amount of work is limited, so there's no point in increasing the number. The number of young apprentices is gradually increasing, but those in their 20s are the youngest generation. The old hoof trimmers are passing on their teachings."


Reporter: "Please tell us about the current situation of hoof trimmers."

Udo: "The tools have improved now, and foreign techniques such as grinders are being adopted. European and American techniques are particularly useful. A man named Carl Buggy from the United States taught me how to treat diseases. Until then, I thought hoof diseases were the job of veterinarians, but with his guidance, hoof trimmers can now also take care of them. In this way, hoof trimming techniques have also evolved."


Reporter: "So the responsibilities of a hoof trimmer have increased."

Udo: "That's right. By cutting hooves regularly, you can reduce the risk of disease. This is an important role of a hoof trimmer. The techniques I learned from Carl Buggy also had a big impact on me. Now I think that disease prevention is also part of the responsibility of a hoof trimmer. ”

Udo: “My motto is ‘follow through with your original intentions’. I treasure the feelings I had when I first started hoof trimming. It is important to value your sense of the cows and treat them in a way that doesn’t displease them. This feeling hasn’t changed since I started this job 40 years ago at the age of 15. I will continue to keep this feeling in mind and strive to make sure the cows grow up comfortably.”

記者「吉田さんの牧場のこだわりを教えていただけますか？」

吉田さん「初代から乳肉複合経営を行っており和牛の繁殖は受精卵を使って増やしてきました。母体はホルスタインの腹を使って子牛を産み、次々に頭数を増やしていった背景がありますね。今では母体も増えてきて和牛繁殖を本格的に進めています。」


記者「吉田さんのところでは、自家産の牛というところにこだわりがあると聞きました。このこだわりについて具体的に教えていただけますか？」

吉田さん「そうですね、これは主人の強いこだわりなんです。今はやっていませんが以前は肥育も自分たちで行い出荷まで責任を持って取り組んでいました。」


記者「以前は導入もされていたことがあるのでしょうか？」

吉田さん「はい、数十年前に導入もしていたことがあります。しかし、その時に病気が発生し、大変なショックを受けた経験があります。それ以来、導入は控え、自家産の牛だけで経営を続けています。これも主人の強い意志で、自家産の牛にこだわっている理由の一つです。」


記者「吉田さんのInstagramで大山乳業や白バラ牛乳が取り上げられているのを見ましたが、これについて詳しく教えてください。」

吉田さん「はい。大山乳業は鳥取県内の牛乳を集めて加工している会社です。自社の工場で牛乳やヨーグルト、白バラコーヒーなどを生産し、全国に発送しています。大山乳業は日本一の乳質を誇るとされていますが、その背景には月に一度の乳質検定があります。朝晩のサンプルを取って、一頭一頭の体細胞数や細菌数を検査し、牛の健康状態をチェックしています。これにより、乳質の悪い牛を早期に見つけて対策を取ることができ、病気の予防にもつながっています。」

Reporter: "Could you tell us about the particularities of Yoshida's farm?"

Yoshida: "Since the first generation, we have been running a dairy and meat business, and we have been breeding Wagyu cattle using fertilized eggs. The mother cattle were born from Holsteins' bellies, and the number of cattle increased one after another. Now, the number of mother cattle has increased, and we are fully promoting Wagyu breeding."


Reporter: "I heard that Yoshida is particular about using cows that are home-raised. Can you tell me more about this particularity?"

Yoshida: "Yes, this is something that my husband is very particular about. We're not doing it now. But in the past, we also raised the cattle ourselves and were responsible for everything up to shipping.”


Reporter: “Have you used to use dairy products before?”

Yoshida: “Yes, we did use dairy products several decades ago. However, at that time, an illness occurred and we were very shocked. Since then, we have refrained from using dairy products and have continued to operate using only our own cows. This is also due to my husband’s strong will, and is one of the reasons why we insist on using our own cows.”


Reporter: “I saw that Daisen Dairy and Shirobara Milk were featured on Yoshida’s Instagram. Can you tell me more about this?” Please."

Yoshida: "Yes. Daisen Dairy is a company that collects and processes milk from within Tottori Prefecture. They produce milk, yogurt, and Shirobara coffee at their own factory and ship them nationwide. Daisen Dairy is said to boast the best milk quality in Japan, and the reason behind this is that they conduct milk quality inspections once a month. They take samples in the morning and evening to check the somatic cell count and bacterial count of each cow and check the health of the cows. This allows them to find cows with poor milk quality early on and take measures, which also helps prevent disease."

記者「吉田さんのところの牛に点数をつけるなら何点でしょうか？」

吉田さん「自分の気持ちとしては、100点満点と言いたいですね。穏やかで人懐っこく、性格も良い子たちばかりなので。ですが厳しく見ると繁殖用の牛たちは少し小さめで、もう少し大きく育てたいという課題があります。まだまだ伸びしろがあると感じていますので、厳しめに見て80点というところでしょうか。でも、これからも改善していけると思っています。」


記者「乳牛に関してはいかがですか？」

吉田さん「乳牛に関しては今とても安定しています。大山乳業では牛群検定の他にも月に4回抜き打ちで乳質検査があります。これをクリアして年間通して一度も引っかからなければ、良質な牛乳として表彰されます。これを目標にして、引っかからないように努力しています。表彰されると賞金ももらえますし、大山乳業独自の『白バラ認定』というものもあります。これは牛舎の清潔さや管理状況をチェックするもので、それをクリアするととても良い牛舎だと認定されます。これも大きな励みになります。」


記者「先ほど繁殖用の牛をもう少し大きく育てたいとおっしゃっていましたが、その80点を100点にするためにどのような具体的な対策を考えていますか？」

吉田さん「良い種をつけることで改善していきたいと考えています。また、母体が多いので、その子たちに様々な種をつけて、大きく育つ牛を育てたいです。繁殖和牛を始めた頃は事故も多かったのですが、カメラや牛温恵を導入して、今はかなり事故も減り、管理がしやすくなっています。」

記者「おすすめのアイテムや道具について教えてください。」

吉田さん「生まれたばかりの子牛に使う仔牛用人工呼吸器キットも非常に助かっています。この装置は、生まれたばかりの子牛が自力で呼吸できない時に使います。特に出産直後の子牛は、羊水を飲み込んでしまったり、呼吸が乱れることが多いです。この人工呼吸器を使うことで、子牛の肺に新鮮な空気を送り込み、適切な酸素供給を助けることができます。最初は使い方に慣れるまで少し時間がかかりましたが、今では必需品となっています。これがあれば、呼吸困難で命を落とすリスクを大幅に減らせるので、子牛の健康管理に大いに役立っています。」

Reporter: "What about the dairy cows?"

Yoshida: "The dairy cows are very stable right now. In addition to the herd inspection, Daisen Dairy also has surprise milk quality inspections four times a month. If they pass this and do not fail once throughout the year, they are awarded for their high-quality milk. We are working hard to achieve this goal. If we receive an award, we receive a prize, and Daisen Dairy also has its own "White Rose Certification." This checks the cleanliness and management of the cowshed, and if we pass it, we are certified as a very good cowshed. This is also a great encouragement. "


Reporter: "Earlier you said that you wanted to grow the breeding cows a little bigger. What specific measures do you have in mind to turn those 80 points into 100 points?"

Yoshida: "I want to improve by breeding good breeding stock. Also, since we have a lot of mothers, I want to breed them with various breeding stock to raise cows that will grow big. When we first started breeding Wagyu cattle, there were a lot of accidents, but since we introduced cameras and cow warming, the number of accidents has decreased significantly and it is now easier to manage."


Reporter: "Please tell us about some recommended items and tools."

Yoshida: "When they are born, The calf ventilator kit we use for our calves has also been extremely helpful. This device is used when newborn calves are unable to breathe on their own. Calves, especially those immediately after birth, often swallow amniotic fluid and have trouble breathing. Using this ventilator, we can send fresh air to the calf's lungs, helping to provide adequate oxygen. It took some time to get used to using it at first, but it has now become an essential item. With this, the risk of dying from respiratory distress is greatly reduced, making it a great help in managing the health of calves. "

吉田さん「酪農をしている方で、食育活動にも力を入れている方がいらっしゃいます。その方は乳和食など、様々な場所で牛乳や酪農の魅力を発信されているんです。同じ地域に住んでいて、酪農仲間でもあるのですが、とても素敵な女性で、私にとっては目標とする方です。」


記者「吉田さんのInstagramを見ていると、絵本を展開されているようですね。これも食育と関係があるのですか？」

吉田さん「はい、乳和食や保育園での食育活動にその師匠と一緒に参加しています。その中で子供たちが絵本を読んでと言ってくる姿に感動し、絵本の魅力を再認識しました。お絵描きが好きだったので、牛の絵を描き始め、そこから『もーちゃん』というキャラクターが生まれました。趣味で描いていた絵が増え、絵本として食育に使えたらと思い、大山乳業さんの職員さんに相談して、彼らと一緒に絵本を出版しました。読み聞かせを通じて普及することができました。」


記者「この絵本は吉田さんにとってどのような存在ですか？」

吉田さん「私は忘れん坊なところがあり、伝えたいことをうまく伝えられないことが多かったんです。絵本があれば、気持ちを込めて読むことで忘れずに伝えられます。自分のためにも作りましたし、子供たちや皆さんに酪農の魅力を知ってもらうきっかけになれたらと思っています。」


記者「最後に座右の銘を教えてください。」

吉田さん「『楽農』です。畜産業は大変な仕事ですが、楽しむことが大切だと思っています。楽しく農業をすることで、自然と笑顔が生まれ、その笑顔が幸せを呼び込むと思うんです。楽しんで取り組むことで、毎日の仕事に対するモチベーションも高まりますし、健康にも良い影響を与えると思います。だからこそ『楽農』を座右の銘にしています。」

Yoshida: "Yes, I participate in dairy Japanese cuisine and nutrition education activities at nursery schools together with my mentor. During that time, I was moved by the sight of the children asking me to read them picture books, and it reminded me of the appeal of picture books. I liked drawing, so I started drawing pictures of cows, and from there the character "Mo-chan" was born. As the number of pictures I drew as a hobby increased, I thought it would be good to use them in a picture book for food education, so I consulted with the staff at Oyama Dairy and published a picture book together with them. I was able to spread the word by reading it aloud."


Reporter: "What does this picture book mean to you, Yoshida?"

Yoshida: "I'm a bit forgetful, and I often have trouble expressing what I want to say. With a picture book, I can read it with feeling and remember it. I made it for myself, and I hope it will be an opportunity for children and everyone to learn about the appeal of dairy farming. ”


Reporter: “Finally, please tell us your motto.”

Yoshida: “‘Easy farming.’ Livestock farming is hard work, but I think it’s important to enjoy it. By enjoying farming, smiles will naturally appear, and I think that smiles will bring happiness.
