60点からの成長と再生

記者「農場での飼育において、自己評価を点数で表すとしたら何点ですか？」

松岡さん「農場の管理について、点数をつけるなら60点くらいですかね。去年に比べると、事故も大幅に減り、改善の兆しが見えていますからね。​」


記者「その60点評価の背景には、どのような理由があり、どんな対策を行っていますか？」

松岡さん「実は昨年、私たちの牧場では事故が多発し、残念ながら多くの牛を失いました。事故の原因は子牛のひどい下痢でした。その原因の特定と対策が重要な課題となっています。それ以降、監視の強化や環境改善など、様々な対策を講じています。それもあってか、今年に入ってからは大幅に減少し、その改善が60点の理由の一つです。下痢が減った具体的な原因はまだ完全には把握できていません。ですので、その追及もしつつ安全に子牛が育つ環境作りに努めたいと思っています。​」

Reporter: "If you were to rate yourself on raising animals on your farm, how many points would you give it?"

Matsuoka: "If I had to give my farm management a score, I'd give it about 60 points. Compared to last year, the number of accidents has decreased significantly, and there are signs of improvement."

Reporter: "What is the reason behind that 60-point rating, and what measures are you taking?"

Matsuoka: "Actually, last year, there were a lot of accidents on our farm, and unfortunately we lost a lot of cows. The cause of the accidents was severe diarrhea in the calves. Identifying the cause and taking measures is an important issue. Since then, we have taken various measures, such as strengthening monitoring and improving the environment. We have been taking various measures. Perhaps because of this, the number of cases has decreased significantly since the beginning of this year, and this improvement is one of the reasons for the 60-point rating. We have not yet fully understood the specific reason for the decrease in diarrhea. Therefore, we would like to pursue this while working to create an environment where calves can be raised safely. ​"

牧場の知恵と協力の力

記者「松岡さんが参考にしている牧場とその理由について教えてください。」

松岡さん「高森町の荒牧さんの牛の育て方は私も参考にしています。彼の牛は肉も大きく、サシもしっかり入っています。彼の餌のやり方や月齢ごとの育成計画など、実際に私の牧場でも取り入れている部分が多くあります。」


記者「繁殖に関して、参考にしている方はいますか？」

松岡さん「はい、繁殖に関してはこの近くの林田さんや今村さんから多くを学んでいます。特に病気の予防方法やどんな薬を使っているのかなどについては、彼らのアドバイスが非常に役立っています。昨年病気が多かった時期はレバチオというビタミン剤を教えていただいて、それを試して改善されたということがありました。」

記者「新規就農者に向けたアドバイスはありますか？」

松岡さん「新規就農者には、周囲の人たちと協力し、経験を積むことが大切だと思います。私も最初は多くの困難に直面しましたが、先輩農家からのアドバイスや支援が大きな助けになりました。教科書や専門書も役立ちますが、実際の経験を積むことが最も重要です。​」

Reporter: "Please tell us which ranch you refer to and why."

Matsuoka: "I also refer to the way Aramaki in Takamori Town raises cattle. His cattle have large meat and good marbling. I actually use his feeding methods and breeding plans by month at my ranch. "

Reporter: "Is there anyone you refer to when it comes to breeding?"

Matsuoka: "Yes, I've learned a lot about breeding from Hayashida-san and Imamura-san, who live nearby. Their advice has been especially helpful when it comes to disease prevention methods and what kind of medicines they use. Last year, when there were a lot of illnesses, they told me about a vitamin called Revatio, and I tried it and it improved my condition."

Reporter: "Do you have any advice for new farmers?"

Matsuoka: "I think it's important for new farmers to cooperate with the people around them and gain experience. I also faced many difficulties at first, but the advice and support from senior farmers was a big help. Textbooks and specialist books are also useful, but gaining actual experience is the most important thing."

牛舎の光：地震からの再生と成長

記者「松岡さんの牛舎は一目見てきれいに掃除されているなと感じたのですが、清潔を保つポイントは何ですか？」

松岡さん「うちの牛舎が清潔かどうかはあまり意識したことがなかったのですが、牛にストレスを与えたくないって気持ちは強いですね。やっぱり一番臭いの被害を受けるのは牛ですし、清潔な環境で育ててあげたいと思っています。」


記者「家族経営の牛舎を継ぐことにしたきっかけは何ですか？」

松岡さん「実は地震で以前の牛舎が損傷を受けた時、その再建を機に経営を継ぐことを決意しました。私は以前から週末に牛舎を手伝っており、牛に手をかけることでその成長を感じることができ、非常にやりがいを感じていました。その経験が私が牛舎を継ぐ決意を固める大きな要因となりました。」

記者「畜産業におけるやりがいについて、具体的なエピソードがあれば教えてください。」

松岡さん「畜産業のやりがいは、育てた牛が健康的に成長し、良質な肉質を得られることにあります。具体的には、私が手をかけた牛が大きく成長し、良い枝肉となることを見る時に喜びを感じますね。自分がやったことがきっかけで良くなって、またトラブルが起きて、原因を探って改善して。そんな風に色々考えながら行動して改善していくっていうところに牛飼いの面白さがあるんだと思います。」

Reporter: "At first glance, I thought that Matsuoka's cowshed was very clean. What is the key to keeping it clean?"

Matsuoka: "I've never really paid much attention to whether my cowshed is clean, but I do have a strong desire to avoid causing stress to the cows. After all, it's the cows that suffer the most from the smell, so I want to raise them in a clean environment. "

Reporter: "What made you decide to take over the family-run cowshed?"

Matsuoka: "Actually, when the previous cowshed was damaged in the earthquake, I decided to take over the business when it was rebuilt. I had been helping out at the cowshed on weekends, and I felt that working with the cows was very rewarding, as I could see them growing. That experience was a major factor in my decision to take over the cowshed."

Reporter: "Please tell us about a specific story about the rewards of working in the livestock industry."

Matsuoka: "The rewards of working in the livestock industry are that the cows you raise grow healthy and produce high-quality meat. Specifically, I feel happy when I see the cows I have worked with grow big and produce good carcasses. Something I did helps things improve, then another problem occurs, and I find the cause and fix it. I think the fun part of being a cowherd is thinking about various things and taking action to make improvements."
