牛一頭一頭に宿る物語を感じて

記者「荒木大作さんの研修先で学んだことについて教えてください。」

林田さん「はい。大学生の時に荒木大作さんのところで研修を受けて、多くのことを学びました。まず、印象に残ったのは一頭一頭の牛に名前があり、系統があり、物語があるということです。大作さんはそれぞれの牛に対して深い愛情と理解を持っており、その牛の歴史や特徴を詳しく教えてくれました。例えば、ある牛がどのように生まれ育ち、その母親がどんな牛だったか、その子供たちがどうなっているかを話してくれました。これにより、ただの家畜ではなく、一頭一頭が個性と物語を持つ存在だと感じることができました。」


記者「個体管理については、荒木さんのところではどのように行われていたのでしょうか。」

林田さん「大作さんの牧場では、個体管理が非常に徹底されていました。例えば、奥さんのひろみさんと大作さんは、牛の名前を言うだけでその牛がどの個体か即座にわかるほど、しっかりと管理していました。夫婦間で牛の状態や特徴を共通の認識として持っていて、まるで以心伝心のようにお互いが牛の状態を理解している姿が印象的でした。このような徹底した個体管理は、現在では息子さんたちにも受け継がれていると感じました。」


記者「それ以外にも荒木さんの牧場で学んだことはありますか。」

林田さん「大作さんの牧場で学んだ大きなことの一つは、努力が結果に直結するということです。特に牛の健康管理において、病気の早期発見が重要であると教わりました。例えば、牛の耳の動きや表情、呼吸、餌を食べる様子から体調の変化を読み取る技術を学びました。大作さんは、牛の顔色や姿勢だけで健康状態を把握し、発情期や体調の変化を見抜いていました。こうした観察力は、長年の経験と深い愛情から培われたもので、非常に感銘を受けました。」

Reporter: "Please tell us what you learned at Araki Daisaku's training facility."

Hayashida: "Yes. I trained with Araki Daisaku when I was a university student and learned a lot. The first thing that impressed me was that each and every cow has a name, a lineage, and a story. Daisaku has a deep love and understanding for each cow, and he told me in detail about the history and characteristics of each cow. For example, he told me how a cow was born and raised, what kind of cow its mother was, and what its children are doing. This made me feel that each cow is not just a farm animal, but has its own personality and story."

Reporter: "How was individual management done at Araki's farm?"

Hayashida: "At Daisaku's ranch, individual management was very thorough. For example, his wife Hiromi and Daisaku would say the names of the cows, They managed the cows so well that they could instantly tell which one it was just by looking at it. The husband and wife shared a common understanding of the cows' conditions and characteristics, and it was impressive to see them understand each other's cows' conditions as if they were telepathically. I felt that this kind of thorough individual management has now been passed down to their sons.

Reporter: "Is there anything else you learned at Araki's farm?"

Hayashida: "One of the big things I learned at Daisaku's farm is that effort directly leads to results. I was taught that early detection of illness is especially important in cow health management. For example, I learned the technique of reading changes in the cow's physical condition from the movement of its ears, facial expressions, breathing, and the way it eats. Daisaku could grasp the health of the cows just by their facial colors and postures, and could tell when they were in heat or when their physical condition changed. I was very impressed by this observational ability, which was cultivated through many years of experience and deep love."

長崎県を照らす！『美津朱里（みつあかり）』の奇跡

記者「自分の牛の状態に点数をつけるなら何点ですか？」

林田さん「70点です。無駄な脂をつけずに、牛の体重を増やしながら筋肉質な体型にできている点が評価できると思います。また、毛艶や皮膚の薄さ、見た目も健康的であることもポイントです。体高が出るというのは、特に高評価につながる要素です。」


記者「この70点をプラス30点するためにはどういったことが必要だと思われますか？」

林田さん「体積をもっとつけることが必要です。また、肋張りを良くしたいと思っています。それに加えて、競りの価格をもう少し上げたいですね。血統を揃えることも重要です。これらを改善することで、さらに点数を上げることができると思います。」


記者「具体的には、今どのようなアクションを取っているのですか？」

林田さん「まず、餌の食い込みを向上させるために、5種類の粗飼料をミキサーで混ぜて給与してます。これにより、牛の胃袋を徐々に大きくし、体積を増やすことを目指しています。また、朝昼晩の3回で粗飼料を与えています。さらに、受精卵を移植したり、自分の牧場で育てた牛から新しい種牛を作ったりして、品種改良にも取り組んでいます。」


記者「今年、長崎県の新規種雄牛で林田さんの牧場から選出されたとききました​。」

林田さん「そうなんです。うちの牧場から出た種牛の『美津朱里（みつあかり）』が長崎県の改良センターに買い上げられて、現在新規子牛の生産に一役かっています。改良センターに協力することで、自分の目標であった優秀な種牛を育成するという夢を少しずつ実現できています。」


記者「美津朱里の特徴について教えてください。」

林田さん「美津朱里はサシが入りやすい種牛です。和牛には主に3系統があり気高系、糸桜系、但馬系があります。美津朱里は但馬系に属します。枝肉重量が取れにくい系統になるのですが、但馬系の中では重量が取れる方かなと思います。」


記者「『美津朱里』という牛を出すにあたって、特別な育成方法があったのでしょうか？」

林田さん「やはり良い成績を出すためには、他の農家さんからの情報やデータの収集が欠かせません。それを基にして、優れた母牛を選び、そこから種牛を育てるという方法を取っています。最終的には運も必要ですが、計画的な育成とデータ分析が成功の鍵だと感じています。」


記者「林田さんが使用しているおすすめのアイテムや道具について教えてください。」

林田さん「牛温恵ですね。これを使う前は夜間の見回りや観察が非常に大変でした。餌を食べる様子や陣痛の兆候を見逃さないようにしていましたが、牛温恵を使うようになってからは、前日に分娩の確率がある程度わかるようになり、準備ができるので安心です。これにより、気が休まるようになりました。現在は通知が3人までしか行かないのですが、もし従業員が多い場合、3人だけだと情報共有が大変なので全員に連絡が行くように改善されると嬉しいですね。家族全員にも共有できるようにしてもらえれば、さらに便利になりますね。」

Reporter: "If you were to rate the condition of your cow, how many points would you give it?"

Hayashida: "70 points. I think it's good that they've been able to put on weight and have a muscular body without putting on unnecessary fat. Other points are the shiny coat, thin skin, and healthy appearance. Being tall is an especially good factor in getting a high rating."


Reporter: "What do you think is needed to add 30 points to this 70?"

Hayashida: "It needs to get more volume. I'd also like to improve the rib profile. In addition, I'd like to raise the auction price a little more. It is also important to have consistent bloodlines. I think that by improving these points, we can further improve our score.


Reporter: "Specifically, what actions are you taking now?"

Hayashida: "First, to improve the feed intake, we mix five types of roughage in a mixer and feed them to the cows. This will gradually enlarge the cows' stomachs, and we aim to increase their volume. We also feed them roughage three times a day, morning, noon, and night. We are also working on improving the breed by transplanting fertilized eggs and creating new breeding bulls from cows raised on our own farm."


Reporter: "This year, in Nagasaki, I heard that the new breeding bull for the prefecture was selected from Hayashida's farm."

Hayashida: "That's right. The breeding bull "Mitsuakari" from our farm was purchased by the Nagasaki Prefecture Breeding Center and is currently helping to produce new calves. By cooperating with the breeding center, I am gradually realizing my dream of breeding a superior breeding bull."


Reporter: "Please tell us about the characteristics of Mitsuakari."

Hayashida: "Mitsuakari is a breeding bull that is prone to marbling. There are three main strains of Wagyu: Kedaka, Itozakura, and Tajima. Mitsuakari belongs to the Tajima strain. It's a breed that's hard to get a carcass weight, but I think it's one of the heavier breeds in the Tajima breed."


Reporter: "Did you have a special breeding method to produce the cow "Mitsuari"?"

Hayashida: "After all, to get good results, it's essential to collect information and data from other farmers. Based on that, we select excellent mother cows and raise breeding bulls from them. Ultimately, luck is also important, but I feel that planned breeding and data analysis are the keys to success."

Reporter: "Please tell us about the items and tools that you recommend using, Hayashida."

Hayashida: "Ushionkei. Before using this, it was very hard to patrol and observe at night. I tried not to miss the way the cows were eating or the signs of labor, but since I started using Ushionkei, I can know to some extent the probability of delivery the day before, so I can prepare and feel at ease. This has helped me relax. Currently, only up to three people are notified, but if there are many employees, it would be great if they could improve it so that everyone can be notified, since it would be difficult to share information with only three people. It would be even more convenient if it could be shared with the whole family."

前向きに挑戦するチャレンジ精神

記者「師匠や目標にしている方を教えてください。」

林田さん「私の師匠は荒木大作さんです。大作さんは、いつもポジティブでイライラすることがなく、周りの人々からも非常に好かれています。私が大作さんを尊敬する理由の一つは、その人としての魅力です。大作さんの牧場での実績も素晴らしく、多くの牛を飼育し、地域でも非常に有名です。私が初めて大作さんの牧場を訪れた時、多くの牛が飼育されているのを見て、その規模の大きさと管理の徹底ぶりに驚きました。」

記者「荒木さんの牧場経営で工夫されているポイントはどこですか。」

林田さん「大作さんの経営の工夫として、自給飼料をうまく利用している点が挙げられます。これは諫早干拓の恩恵であり、コスト削減と品質の安定につながり多頭飼育の管理をするための重要なポイントだと感じます。」


記者「座右の銘について教えてください。」

林田さん「私の座右の銘は『チャレンジ、スポンジ、そんな感じ！』です。この言葉には、何事にも挑戦し、必要なことを吸収していくという意味が込められています。うまくいかなければその部分を捨てればいいし、うまくいったものは自分の中に蓄えておけばいい、という考え方です。」


記者「その座右の銘に込められた意味やエピソードを教えてください。」

林田さん「この座右の銘を持つようになった背景には、自分の牧場での経験があります。例えば、牛の頭数を増やすことに挑戦した結果、大変さもありましたが、それ以上に面白さと成長を感じました。また、品種改良に取り組んだことで、優れた血統の牛を育てることができました。チャレンジしなければ得られなかった成果です。『美津朱里（みつあかり）』を育てられたのも、この精神があったからこそだと思います。」

Reporter: "Please tell us about your mentor or role model."

Hayashida: "My mentor is Araki Daisaku. He is always positive and never gets irritated, and is very well liked by the people around him. One of the reasons I respect him is because of his charm as a person. He has an excellent track record at his ranch, raising many cattle and being very famous in the area. When I first visited his ranch, I was surprised at how many cattle he had and how large it was and how thoroughly it was managed."

Reporter: "What are some of the innovations Araki has made in running his ranch?"

Hayashida: "One of the innovations in Daisaku's management is his effective use of self-produced feed. This is a benefit of the Isahaya reclamation project, and I think it is an important point for managing a large number of cattle, as it reduces costs and stabilizes quality."


Reporter: "About your motto" Please tell me. "

Hayashida: "My motto is 'Challenge, sponge, that's it!' This phrase means to challenge everything and absorb what you need. If it doesn't work out, you can just throw it away, and if it does work out, you can just store it inside yourself."


Reporter: "Please tell us the meaning and story behind your motto."

Hayashida: "The reason I have this motto is because of my experience at my own ranch. For example, I tried to increase the number of cows, and although it was difficult, I felt that it was more interesting and I grew more than anything. Also, by working on improving the breed, I was able to raise cows with excellent bloodlines. This is something I wouldn't have been able to achieve if I hadn't taken on challenges. I think it was because of this spirit that I was able to raise Mitsuakari."

牛温恵

牛温恵は、牛の分娩予測をサポートするツールです。林田さんは、このツールを使用することで、分娩の前日にある程度の確率で予測ができ、事前の準備が可能となり大変安心していると話していました。従来は日常的な観察が必要でしたが、牛温恵のおかげで負担が軽減されたそうです。通知は現在3人までしか送れませんが、従業員全員や家族全員に共有できる機能が追加されるとさらに便利になると話していました。

Gyuonkei is a tool that helps predict when cows will give birth. Hayashida said that by using this tool, he can predict with a certain degree of probability the day before birth, which allows him to prepare in advance, and that this gives him great peace of mind. Previously, daily observation was required, but Gyuonkei has reduced the burden. Currently, notifications can only be sent to up to three people, but Hayashida said that it would be even more convenient if a function was added that would allow notifications to be shared with all employees and family members.
