記者「牛の健康管理において、子牛の低血糖という問題がたまに起きるそうですが、この問題にどのように対応していますか？」

岩本さん「子牛が低血糖の状態で生まれ、ミルクを飲んでも血糖値が上がらないというケースがたまに起こるのですが、そういう障害が起きた場合は獣医の先生と密に協議しながら治療を進めています。耐糖障害というのですが肉質の向上や血統においても、耐糖障害で病弱な牛がいると、全体の品質に影響を及ぼす可能性があります。耐糖障害は牛には珍しいですが、起こることがありますので、その対策も重要です。」


記者「薬を扱う場合は獣医に任せるのが一般的かと思いますが、岩本さんからは獣医から貪欲に学ぶ姿勢を感じます。どのような意図をもってそのように知識を得ているのですか？」

岩本さん「私たちは獣医や受精師の方々から積極的に学ぶ意識は心がけています。治療が必要な症状だけでなく、様々な病気の背後にある原因や症状の理解を深めるためです。例えば、子牛が下痢をしている場合に、ただ下痢止めを与えるのではなく、その原因が何であるかを把握し、適切な治療を行うためです。これにより、病気の早期発見や正確な診断が可能になり、効果的な治療が行えます。」


記者「その知識を得ることで具体的にどのような利点があるのでしょうか？」

岩本さん「この知識は、日々の畜産管理において非常に役立っています。例えば、肺炎の初期症状を見逃さずに対処できるようになるなど、小さな変化にも敏感になれます。また、症状に応じた正確な薬の選択が可能になり、治療の成功率を高めることができます。このように、獣医から学ぶことで、より効果的に動物たちの健康管理を行うことが可能です。」

Reporter: "When it comes to managing the health of cattle, I hear that sometimes calves develop hypoglycemia. How do you deal with this problem?"

Iwamoto: "Sometimes, calves are born with hypoglycemia, and even when they drink milk, their blood sugar doesn't rise. When this happens, we work closely with veterinarians to treat them. This is called glucose intolerance, and when it comes to improving meat quality and bloodlines, if there are sick cows with glucose intolerance, it can affect the overall quality. Glucose intolerance is rare in cattle, but it can happen, so it's important to take measures against it."

Reporter "I think it's common to leave it to veterinarians when it comes to handling medicines, but I feel that you are eager to learn from veterinarians. What is your intention in acquiring knowledge like that?"

Iwamoto: "We are conscious of actively learning from veterinarians and fertilizer specialists. This is to deepen our understanding of the causes and symptoms behind various diseases, not just symptoms that require treatment. For example, if a calf has diarrhea, we don't just give it an anti-diarrheal drug, but understand what the cause is and provide appropriate treatment. This allows for early detection of diseases and accurate diagnosis, and effective treatment."


Reporter: "What are the specific benefits of gaining that knowledge?"

Iwamoto: "This knowledge is very useful in daily livestock management. For example, it makes you sensitive to small changes, such as being able to deal with early symptoms of pneumonia without overlooking them. It also allows you to select the correct medicine according to the symptoms, which increases the success rate of treatment. In this way, learning from veterinarians allows you to manage the health of your animals more effectively."

記者「岩本さん、自身の牛の状態に点数をつけるとしたら何点ですか？」

岩本さん「自分で言うのもなんですが、まだ完璧ではないですね。約65点といったところです。この点数にした理由としては、資金やスペースの制限から、必要な栄養の摂取や運動量が充分でないためです。特にビタミンの転換や母体の運動量不足が課題です。」


記者「その65点の評価を改善するために、具体的にどのような策を考えていますか？」

岩本さん「放牧施設の拡張や、より適切な飼料の管理を行うことが重要です。具体的には、日光浴を増やしビタミンDの活性化を図ること、そして広いスペースで運動をさせることが挙げられます。これにより、牛の骨格の健康と全体的な健康状態を向上させたいと考えています。」

記者「母体の維持に非常にこだわっていると伺いましたが、その重要性と具体的な管理方法について教えてください。」

岩本さん「母体の健康は、健康な子牛を産むための基盤です。過去に母体への過剰な餌やりが原因で問題が発生した経験から、餌の量と質を丁寧に調整しています。特に、餌の配分を個体ごとに最適化し、ミネラルや鉄分のバランスを取ることが大切です。これにより、健康な母体から元気な子牛が生まれるよう努めています。」


記者「岩本さんのオススメのアイテムや道具などはありますか？」

Iwamoto: "I hate to say it myself, but I'm not perfect yet. I'd say about 65 points. The reason I gave it this score is because, due to financial and space limitations, the cows are not getting enough nutrition and exercise. In particular, vitamin conversion and insufficient maternal exercise are issues."


Reporter: "What specific measures are you considering to improve the 65-point rating?"

Iwamoto: "It's important to expand pasture facilities and manage feed more appropriately. Specifically, we could increase sun exposure to activate vitamin D, and give the cows more space to exercise. By doing this, we hope to improve the cows' skeletal health and overall health. "

Reporter: "I heard that you are very particular about maintaining the mother's health. Please tell us about the importance of this and the specific management methods."

Iwamoto: "The health of the mother is the foundation for giving birth to a healthy calf. In the past, we have experienced problems caused by overfeeding the mother, so we carefully adjust the quantity and quality of the feed. In particular, it is important to optimize the distribution of feed for each individual and balance the minerals and iron. This ensures that healthy mothers give birth to healthy calves."


Reporter: "Are there any items or tools that you would recommend, Mr. Iwamoto?"

Iwamoto: "At our farm, we use A I use Sword, a feed that is specialized in iron. This is also a product that I was told about by a veterinarian, and I think the advantage is that it can be mixed into the food, so you can forcefully ingest the necessary iron and minerals. Since I started feeding it to my horses, their coats have become shinier, and iron is an essential ingredient for increasing the mother's vitality, so this is the perfect product for maintaining their health."

岩本さん「尊敬しているのは、私たちの牧場に来てくださる人工受精師の先生と獣医の先生ですね。特に人工受精師の先生は、牛の発情の確認や黄体の正確な判断ができ、必要な栄養やミネラルが足りていない場合に具体的なアドバイスをくれます。獣医の先生も、日常では見落としがちな健康状態の細かなチェックをしてくれるので、非常に信頼しています。実際に聴診器を使って肺の音を聞かせていただいたりして実践の場でしか経験できないことを体験させてくださいます。」


記者「そのお二人から学ぶことの重要性について、具体的なエピソードがあれば教えてください。」

岩本さん「これらの先生方は、教科書では学べない実際の現場の知識を教えてくれます。例えば、下痢症状の具体的な治療方法や、病気の初期段階での対応など、現場でしか学べない判断基準を提供してくれます。実際に彼らからのアドバイスに従って治療を行った結果、多くの問題を早期に解決できました。」


記者「岩本さんの座右の銘があれば教えてください。」

岩本さん「私の座右の銘は『学び』です。経験豊富な人からの学びは自分の成長に直結すると信じています。周りの獣医の先生や人工受精師の先生、他の農家の方々から得た知識を自分の知識として取り入れ、それを実践に活かすことが、私たちの牧場をより良くする鍵だと考えています。」

Iwamoto: "I respect the artificial insemination technicians and veterinarians who come to our farm. I especially respect the people. The insemination technician can confirm the cow's estrus and accurately determine the corpus luteum, and can give specific advice if the cow is lacking in necessary nutrients or minerals. The veterinarian also checks the health of the cow in detail, which is often overlooked in everyday life, so I trust him very much. He actually uses a stethoscope to listen to the lung sounds, and allows me to experience things that can only be experienced in a practical setting."


Reporter: "Please tell us if you have any specific stories about the importance of learning from those two."

Iwamoto: "These teachers teach us practical knowledge that cannot be learned from textbooks. For example, they provide us with criteria for judgment that can only be learned on the spot, such as specific methods for treating diarrhea symptoms and how to respond in the early stages of illness. As a result of actually following their advice and carrying out treatment, we were able to solve many problems early on. ”


Reporter: “Please tell us your motto, Mr. Iwamoto.”

Iwamoto: “My motto is ‘learning.’ I believe that learning from experienced people directly leads to personal growth. I think that the key to improving our ranch is to incorporate the knowledge I gain from veterinarians, artificial insemination technicians, and other farmers into my own knowledge and put it into practice.”
