品質向上への道のり

記者「山本さんの牛に点数をつけるならどのくらいですか？理由も含めて教えてください。」

山本さん「私は迷わず100点をあげたいですね。ただ、完璧ではないので80点くらいかなとも思います。どんなに頑張っても、まだまだ改善の余地はあるものですから。食事や管理方法に工夫を凝らしていますが、飼料の量を増やしたり、より良い環境を整えたりと、常に改善の余地を模索しています。特に出産前の管理や分娩室の利用など、細かな配慮が結果に大きく影響していると思います。」


記者「出生率を上げるためにはどういうことをしていますか？」

山本さん「出生率の向上は私たちの大きな目標です。出生率を上げるためには、まず、牛たちが健康であることが重要です。お産室に入った分娩前の牛は増飼を行いします。通常は1.5kgほど濃厚飼料を与えるのですが増飼している間は3kgの濃厚飼料とヘイキューブを朝晩で1kgずつ、粗飼料を普段量与えます。この増飼の分の濃厚飼料は子牛の分を当てていますね。そうすることでしっかりとたんぱくを摂取できるため出生率がかなり変わってきます。それに生まれた子牛に虚弱な牛が少ない気がします。また、子牛の発情も早くなっているように感じます。」


記者「今後の目標は何ですか？」

山本さん「私たちの目標は出生率をさらに向上させることです。現在、出生率は7割程度ですが、これを9割に近づけたいと考えています。また、子牛の初期育成にも力を入れており、ミルクの量を増やしたり、哺乳期間を調整することで、より健康で元気な子牛を育て上げることを目指しています。」


記者「オススメの商品や道具などはありますか？」

山本さん「アソードという阿蘇の土はすごくいいです。先ほども話したように出生率を上げていくことが私たちの直近の目標なのですがそれをかなえてくれる可能性を感じています。食べさせてすぐ子牛の下痢が黒く締まりだして、毛ヅヤも良くなり元気さが以前と全然違います。ミルクに溶けない部分が懸念材料でしたが微粉タイプの”ミルキーアソード”を紹介いただき詰まりや沈殿問題も解決ししっかりと健康状態のサポートができているように思いますね。」

Reporter: "If you were to give your cows a score, how much would it be? Please also tell us your reasons."

Yamamoto: "I'd give them 100 points without hesitation. However, they're not perfect, so I think it's probably around 80 points. No matter how hard you try, there's always room for improvement. We've put a lot of thought into the diet and management methods, but we're always looking for ways to improve, such as increasing the amount of feed or creating a better environment. I think that small details, such as management before birth and use of the delivery room, have a big impact on the results."

Reporter: "What are you doing to increase the birth rate? "

Yamamoto: "Our big goal is to improve the birth rate. In order to increase the birth rate, it is important that the cows are healthy. We increase the amount of feed for the cows that have entered the birthing room before giving birth. Normally, we give them about 1.5 kg of concentrated feed, but while we are increasing the amount, we give them 3 kg of concentrated feed, 1 kg of hay cubes in the morning and evening, and the usual amount of roughage. This concentrated feed for the increase is for the calves. By doing this, they can get a good amount of protein, which makes a big difference in the birth rate. I feel that there are fewer weak calves at birth. Also, the calves come into heat earlier, so "

Reporter: "What are your future goals?"

Yamamoto: "Our goal is to further increase the birth rate. Currently, the birth rate is about 70%, but we would like to bring it closer to 90%. We are also focusing on the early development of calves, and by increasing the amount of milk and adjusting the nursing period, we aim to raise healthier and more energetic calves."

Reporter: "Any products or tools you would recommend?"

Yamamoto: "Asode, the soil from Aso, is really good. As I said earlier, our immediate goal is to increase the birth rate. However, I feel that it has the potential to make that happen. As soon as I started feeding the calves, their diarrhea started to turn black, their coat became shinier, and they were much more energetic than before. I was concerned that the calves would not dissolve in milk, but they introduced the fine powder type "Milky Assort," which solved the clogging and settling problems and seems to be supporting their health."

未来へ繋ぐ牧畜の技

記者「目標とする方や師匠について教えてください。」

山本さん「私が牧畜業界に足を踏み入れてから、数多くの先輩方に支えられてきました。特に、古河さんや井上さんのような方々は大きな目標です。彼らの経営手法や技術の進歩には常に目を見張るものがあり、そのレベルに近づきたいと心から思っています。」


記者「古河さんのすごいところは何ですか？」

山本さん「古河さんの経営は、機械化を積極的に取り入れながらも、牛一頭一頭に目を行き届かせるというバランスが素晴らしいです。最新技術を駆使して健康管理を徹底しており、その結果が生産性の向上に直結しています。彼のように、技術と人間の目の両方で牛の管理を行う姿勢は、私たちも見習うべきだと感じています。」


記者「井上さんの方はどういったところがすごいですか？」

山本さん「井上さんは、大規模な経営をされていて、その規模の大きさだけではなく、質の高さにも定評があります。従業員さんたちとの協力体制もしっかりと構築されており、高い生産性と品質を保つことに成功しています。井上さんのように、大規模でも質を落とさず、効率的に運営することは、私たちにとっても大きな目標です。」


記者「目標にする二人から学ぶべき点は何だと思いますか？」

山本さん「二人から学ぶべきは、最新技術の導入と人の目による細やかな管理の重要性です。機械化を進めつつも、牛一頭一頭への愛情を忘れず、健康管理に細心の注意を払う。このバランスを保つことが、高品質な牛を育て、生産性を高める鍵だと教えられています。」

Reporter: "Tell us about your role models and mentors."

Yamamoto: "Since I entered the livestock industry, I have been supported by many seniors. In particular, people like Furukawa and Inoue are big goals for me. Their management methods and technological advances are always impressive, and I truly want to get close to their level. "

Reporter: "What is so great about Mr. Furukawa?"

Yamamoto: "Mr. Furukawa's management has a great balance between actively incorporating mechanization and keeping a close eye on each individual cow. He uses the latest technology to thoroughly manage the health of his cows, which directly translates into improved productivity. I think we should all learn from his approach to managing cows with both technology and human eyes."

Reporter: "What is so great about Mr. Inoue?"

Yamamoto: "Mr. Inoue runs a large-scale operation, and is renowned not only for its size but also for its high quality. They have a strong cooperative system with their employees, and have succeeded in maintaining high productivity and quality. Like Mr. Inoue, it is a big goal for us to operate efficiently without compromising quality even on a large scale. ”

Reporter: “What do you think we should learn from these two people who look up to us?”

Yamamoto: “What we should learn from them is the importance of introducing the latest technology and meticulous management by human eyes. Even as they move towards mechanization, they do not forget to love each and every cow and pay close attention to their health. I was taught that maintaining this balance is the key to raising high-quality cows and increasing productivity. "

一生懸命の精神で牧畜業に革新を

記者「新規参入者へのメッセージをお願いします。」

山本さん「牧畜業に新しく参入する方へのアドバイスですが、最初に言いたいのは、恐れずに大胆な投資をすることの大切さです。私も最初は大きな借金をして機械化や施設の整備に投資しました。ただし、借金は必ず返済計画を立て、返せる範囲で行うべきです。また、牛舎の建設に際しては、将来の運用を考えて、効率的で働きやすい設計を心掛けました。」


記者「投資のポイントはどこにあると思いますか？」

山本さん「投資のポイントは、建物よりも牛にあります。良い牛に投資することが、将来の利益に直結します。初期に導入する牛の質が、その後の牧場の基盤を決めますから、良質な血統の牛を選ぶことが大切です。私たちは、外部からの導入を最小限に抑え、自家繁殖で品質を保っています。」


記者「経営を続ける上で大切にしていることは何ですか？」

山本さん「経営を続ける上で一番大切にしているのは、一生懸命に取り組む姿勢です。全てにおいて、命を懸けるほどの情熱を持って挑むこと。また、牛に対する投資は、牛自身が最も良いリターンをもたらしてくれるという信念を持っています。借金は牛で返す、これが私たちの座右の銘です。」


記者「家族経営の中での工夫はありますか？」

山本さん「家族経営の中での工夫としては、お互いの労働負担を分散させることです。息子が加わってくれたことで、家族それぞれが休息を取れるようにシフトを組んでいます。お互いに協力し合うことで、長期間にわたって持続可能な経営を目指しています。」

Reporter: "Please give a message to newcomers."

Yamamoto: "As for advice to those who are new to the livestock industry, the first thing I would like to say is the importance of making bold investments without fear. I also took out a large loan at first and invested in mechanization and facility development. However, you should always have a repayment plan and only repay what you can. Also, when building the cowshed, I tried to design it to be efficient and easy to work in, with future operations in mind."

Reporter: "What do you think is the key to investment?"

Yamamoto: "The key to investment is in the cows, not the building. Investing in good cattle directly translates to future profits. The quality of the cattle you introduce in the beginning will determine the foundation of your farm, so it is important to choose cattle with good bloodlines. We minimize the introduction of cattle from outside and maintain quality by breeding our own cattle. ”

Reporter: “What do you value in continuing to run your business?”

Yamamoto: “The most important thing in continuing to run your business is a hard-working attitude. We approach everything with passion, even risking our lives. We also believe that investing in cattle will bring the best return. Our motto is to pay back debts with cattle.”

Reporter: “Are there any innovations in running a family business?”

Yamamoto: “One of the innovations in running a family business is to distribute the workload among each other. With the addition of my son, we have arranged shifts so that each family member can have a rest. By cooperating with each other, we aim to run a sustainable business over the long term.”
