記者「岡本さんの牛の育て方で、特に注目すべき技術や知識があれば教えてください。」

岡本さん「私が祖父から受け継いだのは、健康な牛の様子をよく観察し、その基準から外れた牛を見つける技術。これに、獣医の専門知識を組み合わせて、病気を早期に発見し、治療期間を短縮しています。」


記者「具体的にどのような点を見ているんですか？」

岡本さん「私たちは、牛の毛並みや背中のラインに注目しています。健康な牛は、毛が逆立たず、背中のラインが綺麗です。また、耳が垂れていないかもチェックします。さらに、総合的な雰囲気や違和感を感じ取ることが重要です。細かい観察によって、健康状態を見極めるんです。」


記者「その方法で改善された点はありますか？」

岡本さん「昔に比べて、病気を早期に発見できるようになりました。それによって治療期間が短くなり、場合によっては重い治療を回避できるようになりました。この早期発見と迅速な対応は、牛の健康はもちろん、経済的な面でも大きな改善をもたらしています。」

Reporter: "Please tell us if there are any techniques or knowledge that are particularly noteworthy in Okamoto's cattle raising methods."

Okamoto: "What I inherited from my grandfather is the technique of closely observing the condition of healthy cattle and finding those that do not meet the standard. We combine this with the expertise of veterinarians to detect illnesses early and shorten the treatment period."


Reporter: "What exactly do you look at?"

Okamoto: "We pay attention to the coat and line of the cow's back. A healthy cow has hair that does not stand on end and a clean line of the back. We also check that the ears are not drooping. In addition, we look at the overall appearance and any abnormalities. It is important to sense the condition of the cow. By observing closely, you can determine its health condition."


Reporter: "Have you seen any improvements with this method?"

Okamoto: "Compared to the past, we can now detect illnesses earlier. This has shortened the treatment period, and in some cases, we can avoid heavy treatment. This early detection and rapid response has brought about great improvements not only in the health of the cows, but also in the economic aspect."

改善無限：進化する畜産

記者「岡本さんの牛に点数をつけるとしたら、どう評価しますか？」

岡本さん「現状で70点と評価したいですね。以前に比べて、私たちの管理方法も進化しましたし、牛の血統も向上していますから。」


記者「その70点の評価に至った具体的な改善点は何ですか？」

岡本さん「実は、昔に比べて競りでの成績が安定してきたんです。これまでの5、6年間で年間10頭の保留がある中で、病気の減少や畜産技術の向上が生じています。その結果、市場での評価が高まっていますね。まだまだ改善の余地はありますし、特に病気の早期発見や予防にもっと注力していく必要があります。こうした取り組みを積極的に進めていけば、より良い成績を収めることができると思っています。」


記者「青年部で試験農家としての活動もされているそうですが、その経験は岡本さんにとってどのように影響していますか？」

岡本さん「青年部での活動は新しい知見を得る絶好の機会です。最新の飼育技術や研究結果を学び、それを自分たちの牧場にも応用しています。試験農家としての経験は、新しい方法のテストと、改善への取り組みを強化する大きなモチベーションになっています。実際に試してみることで、理論だけでは得られない貴重なデータと実践的知識を蓄積しています。」


記者「オススメのアイテムや道具はありますか？」

岡本さん「私のオススメはやっぱりエプロンですね。獣医さんが使う防水のエプロンが特に便利でして、汚れ防止はもちろん、ポケットがたくさん付いているので、注射器やロープなどの小物もすぐに手に取れます。もうこれがないと仕事にならないくらい、毎日着用しています。」


記者「そのエプロン、どこで手に入れることができますか？」

岡本さん「これはワークマンで見つけたんですよ。耐久性もあり、価格も手ごろで、機能性を考えると本当にお買い得だと思います。足元までカバーするタイプではないので、そこは少し改造して使っていますが、基本的にはとても良い商品です。」

Reporter: "If you had to rate Okamoto's cows, how would you rate them?"

Okamoto: "I would rate them at 70 points at present. Previously, Our management methods have evolved and our cattle bloodlines have improved. ”


Reporter: “What specific improvements have led to the 70-point rating?”

Okamoto: “Actually, our results at the auctions have become more stable compared to the past. Over the past five or six years, we have had 10 head of cattle on hold per year, but we have seen a decrease in illnesses and improvements in livestock farming techniques. As a result, our market reputation has improved. There is still room for improvement, and we need to focus more on early detection and prevention of diseases in particular. If we continue to actively pursue these efforts, I believe we will be able to achieve better results.”


Reporter: “I heard that you are also active as a test farmer in the youth division. How has that experience influenced you, Okamoto?”

Okamoto: “Working with the youth division is a great opportunity to gain new knowledge. We learn the latest breeding techniques and research results, and apply them to our own ranch. Our experience as a test farmer is a great motivation for us to test new methods and strengthen our efforts to improve. By actually trying things out, we are accumulating valuable data and practical knowledge that cannot be obtained through theory alone.”


Reporter: “Are there any items or tools that you would recommend? "

Okamoto: "My recommendation is an apron. The waterproof aprons used by veterinarians are particularly useful. Not only do they prevent dirt, but they also have many pockets so you can easily reach small items such as syringes and ropes. I wear them every day and I can't work without them."


Reporter: "Where can you get that apron?"

Okamoto: "I found this apron at Workman. It's durable, reasonably priced, and considering its functionality, I think it's a real bargain. It doesn't cover the feet, so I have to modify it a little, but basically it's a very good product."

記者「青年部の環境について詳しく教えてください。」

岡本さん「私は、青年部の活動を通じてすべてをさらけ出す環境で学んでいます。ランキングを見て自分の位置を知り、改善の必要がある部分を理解しようとしています。特に分娩間隔や牛の体重管理など、細かいデータまで公開されていて、それが私たちの成長に直結しているんです。」


記者「その透明性がある環境で、具体的にどのような成果を得ていますか？」

岡本さん「このシステムのおかげで、私たちは常にデータに基づいて改善を図ることができます。例えば、分娩間隔が改善されたり、販売価格が平均以上に保たれたりしています。最初はランキングの下位だったのが、今では上位に食い込むことができています。」


記者「岡本さん、農場運営における座右の銘は何ですか？」

岡本さん「牛の一頭一頭の把握が私の座右の銘ですね。一頭一頭をきちんと把握することで、それぞれの牛の健康状態や生産性を最大限に引き出せます。例えば、特定の牛がどのような症状を示しているか、どの子が大きく育つかなど、具体的なデータが手元にあることで、適切な対応が可能になります。」


記者「把握からどのような具体的な行動に繋がるんですか？」

岡本さん「正確なデータがあれば、次に必要な行動が明確になります。例えば、分娩後40日以上経った牛には特定の治療を施し、再び健康状態を最適化する。また、繁殖に関する具体的なルールを設けて、計画的に管理することが可能です。これらの決め事が全ての基盤となり、牧場の効率と生産性を高めるのです。」

Reporter: "Please tell me more about the youth division environment."

Okamoto: "Through my youth division activities, I am learning in an environment where everything is exposed. I look at the rankings to find out where I stand and try to understand the areas that need improvement. In particular, detailed data such as calving intervals and cow weight management are made public, and this is directly linked to our growth."


Reporter: "What specific results are you seeing in that transparent environment?"

Okamoto: "This is Thanks to Stem, we can always make improvements based on data. For example, we have improved the calving interval and kept the selling price above average. At first, we were ranked low, but now we are able to move up the rankings. ”


Reporter: “Mr. Okamoto, what is your motto when it comes to farm management?”

Okamoto: “My motto is to understand each and every cow. By understanding each and every cow properly, we can maximize the health and productivity of each cow. For example, having specific data at hand, such as what symptoms a particular cow is showing and which calves will grow up, allows us to take appropriate action.”


Reporter: “What specific actions can be taken from understanding?”

Okamoto: “With accurate data, the next action required becomes clear. For example, cows that have been in the business for more than 40 days since calving can be given specific treatment to optimize their health again. We can also set specific rules regarding breeding and manage them in a planned manner. These rules form the basis of everything, and increase the efficiency and productivity of the farm.”
