牛肉の未来を切り開く繁殖への挑戦

記者「岩根さんの技術的な部分、特に牛の飼育方法について詳しく教えていただけますか？」

岩根さん「私たちの飼育法は、実は家族代々続く黒牛の肥育から始まりました。特に子牛の相場が高騰している今、自家で子牛を育て、そこから肥育することに重点を置いています。私たちは、4から6ヶ月の間に濃厚飼料を与え、その後は草を主食に切り替えることで、肉質を大きく向上させる試みをしています。もともと肥育農家として父から子牛を選ぶ基準を教えてもらっていたのでその知見と周囲の農家さんからのアドバイスをもとに試行錯誤して繁殖を開始しました。」


記者「実際の飼育過程で直面した課題にはどのように対処してきたのでしょうか？」

岩根さん「たくさん課題に直面しました。特にお産の事故が多く、それに対処するために、私たちは最新の技術を導入しました。牛舎には監視機器を設置し、お産の開始を即座に察知できるようにしました。この対策により、お産の事故を大幅に減らすことができ、結果として繁殖の成績も向上しました。つまり、伝統的な知識に最新技術を組み合わせることで、飼育方法を革新しています。」


記者「その技術的な工夫以外に、飼料の工夫などはありますか？」

岩根さん「はい、実は飼料にも大きな工夫を凝らしています。特に、腹作りに重点を置いていて、2ヶ月まではミルクをたっぷり与え、その後一気に半分に減らすことで、濃厚飼料の摂取量を増やします。これにより、牛の胃の容量を増やし、より多くの飼料を消化できる体を作ります。」

Reporter: "Could you tell us more about the technical aspects of Mr. Iwane, especially the way you raise cattle?"

Iwane: "Actually, our breeding method started with fattening black cattle, which has been passed down through generations of our family. Now that the price of calves is rising, we are focusing on raising our own calves and fattening them. We feed them concentrated feed for 4 to 6 months, and then switch to grass as a staple food, in an attempt to greatly improve the quality of the meat. My father, who was originally a fattening farmer, taught me the criteria for selecting calves, so I started breeding them through trial and error based on that knowledge and advice from other farmers around me."

Reporter: "How did you deal with the challenges you faced during the actual breeding process?"

Iwane: "We faced many challenges. In particular, there were many accidents during childbirth, and to deal with that, we introduced the latest technology. We installed monitoring equipment in the cowshed so that we could immediately detect the start of childbirth. This measure allowed us to significantly reduce accidents during childbirth, and as a result, our breeding results improved. In other words, we are innovating our breeding methods by combining traditional knowledge with the latest technology."

Reporter: "Apart from these technical innovations, were there any improvements in feed, etc.? "

Iwane: "Yes, actually, we put a lot of thought into the feed. In particular, we focus on stomach development. We give them plenty of milk for the first two months, then cut it in half and increase the amount of concentrated feed they consume. This increases the capacity of their stomachs and prepares their bodies to digest more feed."

大きさだけじゃない、品質で勝負！

記者「自分の牛の状態に点数をつけるとしたら何点ですか？」

岩根さん「正直に言うと60点くらいですね。熊本の市場では非常に大きな牛が高く売れる傾向にあり、300キロ以上でないと価値が認められません。私たちの牛は質は良いのですが、市場の求める体重まで育てるのは難しい。理由としては、大きさだけでなく、育成方法、特に腹の作り方に重点を置いているからです。市場の要求と私たちの育成方針が必ずしも合致しない部分があり、そのギャップが60点と評価した理由です。」


記者「100点に向けて＋40点を目指すにはどういった点を改善したいですか？」

岩根さん「改善点としては、やはり市場のニーズに応えつつ、私たちの品質基準を保持することです。具体的には、粗飼料主体で最後までしっかりと餌を与え、大きな牛を育てることを目指しています。しかし、最終的には、私たちの理想とする育成方法で、品質とサイズの両方で高い評価を受ける牛を育て上げることが理想です。これが私たちの目指す改善点であり、目標でもあります。」


記者「飼育におけるおすすめのアイテムや道具について教えていただけますか？」

岩根さん「私たちは、最新の監視技術を導入しており、特にUモーションというシステムが非常に役立っています。このシステムを使うことで発情のタイミングを正確に把握することができます。さらに、紙での記録からデジタルへの移行により、管理が大幅に楽になりました。この技術の導入は、私たちの飼育方法に革命をもたらし、一人でも効率的に作業を行うことを可能にしています。」

Reporter: "If you had to rate the condition of your cows, how many points would you give them?"

Iwane: "To be honest, I'd say about 60 points. In the Kumamoto market, very large cows tend to sell for high prices, and only cows over 300 kg are considered valuable. Our cows are of good quality, However, it is difficult to raise them to the weight required by the market. The reason is that we focus not only on size, but also on the breeding method, especially on how to develop the belly. There are some areas where the market demands and our breeding policy do not necessarily match, and that gap is the reason we rated them at 60 points. ”

Reporter: “What areas would you like to improve in order to aim for +40 points toward 100 points?”

Iwane: “As for areas for improvement, it is to maintain our quality standards while responding to market needs. Specifically, we aim to feed the cattle well until the end, mainly on roughage, and raise large cattle. However, ultimately, our ideal breeding method would be to raise cattle that are highly rated for both quality and size. This is the improvement we are aiming for, and it is also our goal. "

Reporter: "Could you tell us about some recommended items and tools for raising them?"

Iwane: "We have introduced the latest monitoring technology, and a system called U-Motion has been particularly useful. Using this system, we can accurately determine the timing of estrus. Furthermore, by switching from paper records to digital, management has become much easier. The introduction of this technology has revolutionized the way we raise our animals, allowing us to work efficiently even alone."

小さな一歩から始まる、岩根牧場の大きな夢

記者「師匠や目標としている方について教えてください。」

岩根さん「私が尊敬しているのは、近所に住む先輩の農家さんです。その方は元々F1牛の肥育を手掛けていましたが、その柔軟な発想力と状況判断の速さで、今では200頭もの牛を飼育しています。その農家さんの強みは、時代のニーズに応じて即座に方針を変え、必要なときには牛舎を建てるなど、迅速に行動に移すことができる点です。私にとって、その方は経営だけでなく、生活のバランスの取り方も含めて大きな指標となっています。仕事とプライベートのバランスを上手く取りながら、常に新しい挑戦を恐れずに取り組んでいます。」


記者「座右の銘を教えてください。」

岩根さん「座右の銘は「小さなことをコツコツと」です。私が経営を始めた当初は、多くの計画が上手くいかず、さまざまな困難に直面しました。しかし、小さな成功を積み重ねることで、徐々に事業を成長させることができました。特に新規で事業を始める場合、周囲と同じやり方ではうまくいかないことが多いため、自分なりの小さな挑戦を続けていくことが大切です。」


記者「今後の挑戦について聞かせてください。」

岩根さん「今後の挑戦としては、私たち自身で加工から販売まで手掛けることに挑戦していきたいと考えています。現在はSNSを通じて肉の販売を行っていますが、まだ小規模な取り組みです。しかし、この取り組みを通じて直接消費者に製品を届けることの重要性を感じており、将来的には自分たちの手で加工し、より多くの人に製品を提供できるようになりたいと思っています。これは私たちにとって新たな挑戦であり、経営の一環として非常に楽しみにしています。」

Reporter: "Tell us about your mentor or role model."

Iwane: "The person I respect is a nearby He is a senior farmer who lives here. He originally raised F1 cattle, but thanks to his flexible imagination and quick judgment, he now raises 200 cattle. The farmer's strength is that he can quickly change his policy according to the needs of the times and take swift action, such as building a cattle shed when necessary. For me, he is a great guide not only in management but also in how to balance life. He is always unafraid of new challenges while balancing his work and private life well.

Reporter: "What is your motto?"

Iwane: "My motto is 'do small things steadily.' When I first started running my business, many of my plans did not go well and I faced many difficulties. However, by accumulating small successes, I was able to gradually grow my business. Especially when starting a new business, it is important to continue taking on small challenges of your own, because doing things the same way as others often does not work. "

Reporter: "Tell us about your future challenges."

Iwane: "As a future challenge, we want to try to handle everything from processing to sales ourselves. Currently, we sell meat through social media, but it's still a small-scale initiative. However, through this initiative, we feel the importance of delivering products directly to consumers, and in the future, we would like to process the products ourselves and provide them to more people. This is a new challenge for us, and we are very much looking forward to it as part of our management."

Uモーションを使うようになり発情のタイミングを正確に把握することができるようになったそうです。また今までは紙で個体管理をしていたため、かなり時間を要していたところ、Uモーションでデジタル管理ができるようになり管理が大幅に楽になったと話していました。
