母牛から学ぶ畜産の知恵

記者「知里口さん、畜産技術において過去に体験された成功事例について教えていただけますか？特に、牛の健康や生産性を向上させるための具体的な方法についてです。」

知里口さん「はい、畜産の現場では日々、様々な課題に直面しています。特に子牛の管理においては、環境要因が大きく影響することが多いですね。私たちは添加剤の使用や哺乳ロボットの清掃といった基本的な管理を徹底することで、子牛の健康状態を大きく改善することができました。これにより、病気の発生が減少し、成長の安定化を図ることができるんです。」


記者「その環境要因とは具体的にどのようなものでしょうか？また、それを管理することでどのような改善が見られるのでしょうか？」

知里口さん「母牛の管理方法に大きく依存しています。母牛群の管理を改善することで、子牛のサイズに一貫性が生まれ、病気に弱い子牛が減少しました。これは、不必要に多量の添加剤やビタミン剤を使うことなく、健康な子牛を育てる上で非常に重要なポイントです。安定した環境や健康的な母牛の元で育った子牛は、成長が順調で管理がしやすくなるんですよ。」


記者「具体的にどのような添加剤が効果的だったのでしょうか？」

知里口さん「アソードという添加剤が非常に有効でした。阿蘇の赤土由来の100％天然の土なのですが、阿蘇の赤土は昔から血液をサラサラにする効果があると言われていて、肝臓の機能をサポートし、解毒作用を助けるため、私はそれを強肝剤として見ています。使っていると牛の健康を維持する効果を実感しました。血液の状態が良好になることで、牛の肝機能が向上し、全体的な健康が保たれやすくなります。これは、人間の健康管理にも似ていますね。特に価格の面でもアソードは他の添加剤に比べてコストパフォーマンスが高く、使用しやすい点が魅力でした。母牛の管理にこの添加剤を使うことで、より健康な子牛が育つようになりました。」

Chiriguchi: "Yes, livestock farming faces many challenges every day. In particular, environmental factors often have a large impact on the management of calves. We have been able to significantly improve the health of calves by thoroughly implementing basic management such as using additives and cleaning the feeding robot. This reduces the incidence of diseases and stabilizes growth."

Reporter: "What are those environmental factors specifically? And what kind of improvements can be seen by managing them?"

Chiriguchi: "It depends a lot on how the mother cows are managed. By improving the management of the mother cow herd, we have achieved consistency in the size of calves and reduced the number of calves that are vulnerable to diseases. This is a very important point in raising healthy calves without using unnecessary large amounts of additives and vitamins. Calves raised in a stable environment and with healthy mother cows grow well and are easier to manage."

Reporter: "Specifically, what additives were effective?"

Chiriguchi: "A The additive called Sword was very effective. It is 100% natural soil derived from the red soil of Aso. Since ancient times, the red soil of Aso has been said to have the effect of thinning the blood, supporting liver function and aiding in detoxification, so I see it as a liver tonic. When I used it, I realized that it was effective in maintaining the health of the cows. By improving the condition of the blood, the cow's liver function improves and it becomes easier to maintain overall health. This is similar to human health management. In particular, Sword is more cost-effective than other additives in terms of price, and it is easy to use, which was attractive. By using this additive to manage the mother cows, healthier calves have been raised. ”

記者「ご自身が管理している牛に点数を付けるとしたら、どのくらいですか？」

知里口さん「だいたい65点くらいをつけますね。時期によっては55点になることもあります。これ以上の点数を出そうとすると、かなりの投資が必要になるんです。たとえば、良い種を導入したり、母牛の管理をさらに改良したりすることが求められますが、それには相当なコストがかかりますからね。」


記者「今後、点数を向上させるために具体的にどのような取り組みを考えていますか？」

知里口さん「はい、現状65点は損益分岐点としてはまずまずですが、もちろん改善の余地はあります。次のステップとしては、飼料の均等配分や牛同士の相性を見ながらスタンチョンの配置を最適化することを考えています。これによって飼料を効率良く消費させ、全体の健康状態を向上させることが期待できます。」

記者「投資を抑えつつ、実現可能な改善策としてはどのようなことが考えられますか？」

知里口さん「具体的には、毎日の管理をさらに丁寧に行うことです。例えば、飼料の配分をもっと細かく調整することや、牛たちの健康を日々観察し、小さな変化にも迅速に対応することが挙げられます。これらはコストをあまりかけずにできる改善策で、少しずつでも牛たちの状態を良くしていければと思っています。」

Reporter: "If you were to give a score to the cows you manage, how much would you rate them?"

Chiriguchi: "I would give them about 65 points. Depending on the time of year, it can be as high as 55 points. To get a score higher than this, a significant investment would be required. For example, it would be necessary to introduce good breeding stock and further improve the management of the mother cows, but that costs a considerable amount of money."

Reporter: "What specific efforts are you considering to improve your score in the future? "

Chiriguchi: "Yes, 65 points is a reasonable break-even point at present, but of course there is room for improvement. As a next step, we are considering optimizing the placement of the stanchions while checking the even distribution of feed and the compatibility between the cows. This will allow the feed to be consumed efficiently and improve the overall health of the cows."

Chiriguchi: "Specifically, by managing the cows more carefully every day. For example, by adjusting the distribution of feed more finely and observing the health of the cows every day and responding quickly to even small changes. These are improvements that can be made without incurring much cost, and I hope to improve the condition of the cows little by little."

牛から学ぶ、畜産の真髄

記者「畜産において重宝しているアイテムや道具があれば、その詳細を教えてください。」

知里口さん「我々の牧場では、Uモーションを非常に重宝しています。Uモーションは牛の発情や健康状態を正確に把握するのに役立ちます。現代では、管理者が牛一頭一頭の顔や名前を把握しきれないこともありますが、Uモーションを使用することで、細やかな管理が可能になります。特に分娩時にその価値を実感しており、牛にとってもストレスが少なく、私たちにとっても非常に効率的なツールです。」

記者「尊敬している人や影響を受けた人について教えてください。」

知里口さん「齋藤先生に非常にお世話になりました。齋藤先生は全酪連の先生で、SNSを通じて栄養学の基礎を教えていただきました。また、高手牧場のお兄さんにも、SNSを通じて栄養学へ誘っていただきましたし、今は、アルバータ大学の大場先生のご著書を愛読しています。理論として正しいことというより、牛と接していて牛が伝えたい事に一番近いことを教えていただきました。」


記者「座右の銘やモットーについて教えてください。」

知里口さん「私の座右の銘は「牛が先生」です。牛自身が私たちに多くのことを教えてくれます。大場先生や齋藤先生は、牛からのメッセージを最もよく理解し、それを私たちに伝えてくれる師匠のような存在です。しかし、最終的には、牛自身が直接私たちに教えてくれることが最も価値があります。そのため、牛の声を聞き、牛のために最適な環境を整えることが、私の畜産業における最大の目標です。」

Chiriguchi: “I was very grateful to Professor Saito. Professor Saito is a professor at the All Japan Dairy Federation, and he taught me the basics of nutrition through social media. The older brother at Takate Farm also invited me to nutrition through social media, and now I am a big fan of the books by Professor Oba of the University of Alberta. Rather than being theoretically correct, he taught me the things that are closest to what cows want to tell me when I interact with them.”

Reporter: “Please tell us about your motto or motto.”

Chiriguchi: “My motto is ‘Cows are teachers.’ The cows themselves teach us a lot. Dr. Oba and Dr. Saito are like mentors who understand the messages from the cows best and communicate them to us. But ultimately, it is most valuable for the cows to teach us directly. That is why my biggest goal in the livestock industry is to listen to the voices of the cows and create the best environment for them. "
