今回私たちが取材に向かったのは熊本県大津町のつだ牧場さん。ご家族で経営されており代表取締役の津田朋哉さんと津田稜平さんのご兄弟にインタビューしました。牛舎にはたくさんの牛と自社で生産している自給飼料（デントコーン）、そして事務所内には複数のパソコンモニターがあり先進技術にも意欲的に取り組んでいるご様子でした。
This time we went to Tsuda Farm in Ozu Town, Kumamoto Prefecture to cover the farm. The farm is family run, and we interviewed the company's representative directors, brothers Tomoya and Ryohei Tsuda. There were many cows in the barn and their own feed (dent corn) that they produce themselves, and there were several computer monitors in the office, and it looked like they were actively working on advanced technology.
搾乳ロボットを導入した酪農
2016年から搾乳ロボットを導入しており、搾乳作業に時間を取られない分、その他の作業に時間を割くことができるため助かっています。随時、乳量等を確認できるため最新の情報で分析を行えるといった良いこともありますが搾乳時に牛を直接見られない分、今まで以上に牛を観察し病気などの発見が遅れないように気を遣っています。
飼槽に置いてある飼料のカロリーバランスも考えており、濃度を濃くすると満足する牛が増え搾乳ロボットに自発的に入らなくなったり、薄くすると乳量が減ったりするため、牛の状態を見ながら調整しています。
We introduced a milking robot in 2016, which is a great help because it saves time on milking and allows us to devote more time to other tasks. One advantage is that we can check the milk volume at any time and perform analysis using the latest information, but because we cannot see the cows directly when milking, we are observing the cows more than ever before and are careful not to delay the discovery of illnesses.
We also consider the calorie balance of the feed placed in the feed trough; if the concentration is made too high, more cows will be satisfied and will not enter the milking robot voluntarily, and if the concentration is made too low, the amount of milk produced will decrease, so we adjust the concentration while observing the cows' condition.
自家育成によるロボット搾乳に合わせた牛群改良
自家育成をしていますがロボット搾乳に合わせた牛づくりも行っています。改良だけをしていくのは簡単ですが、ロボット搾乳に向かない牛が産まれたりするので乳頭配置や搾乳スピードといったロボットに合った牛を改良しています。また、種にはこだわっていて欧米の種を使用しています。データ数が多いので、その中でロボット搾乳に合った牛が産まれてくるように、考えながら種を選定しています。
We raise our own cows, but we also train cows to be suitable for robotic milking. It would be easy to just make improvements, but we end up with cows that are not suited to robotic milking, so we improve the cows to be suitable for robots, such as teat arrangement and milking speed. We are also particular about the breed and use European and American breeds. We have a lot of data, so we carefully select the breed so that we can produce cows that are suitable for robotic milking.
自給飼料を生産し安定した牧場経営へ
今は餌の高騰で大変な時期ですが、数年前までは酪農バブルと言われている時期もあり自給飼料を生産しないオール購入の牧場でも多くの収益を上げられる時期もありました。
何十年も自給飼料を生産していると飼料を買った方が安い時期は飼料生産に割く時間と労力、機械代を考えると費用対効果が悪く感じることもありますが、現在は自給飼料のおかげで飼料高騰の影響を抑えられています。また兄弟がもう1人いて飼料生産を専門で担当しており、今後は飼料の販売まで手掛けて行きたいと考えています。「良い時は良い、悪い時は悪い」という収益の波がある経営よりは、自給飼料を生産し様々な工夫を行いながら牧場としてなるべく安定した経営が行えるよう努めています。土地の関係上増頭による規模拡大は難しいため、各々の担当箇所をより良くして経営が右肩上がりになって行くようにしたいですね。
It's a tough time right now because of the rising cost of feed, but until a few years ago, there was a time called the dairy bubble, and even farms that didn't produce their own feed and only bought in feed were able to make a lot of profit.
When you produce your own feed for decades, when it's cheaper to buy feed, it can feel like it's not cost-effective when you consider the time and effort and machinery costs spent on feed production, but now we're able to mitigate the impact of rising feed prices thanks to our self-produced feed. We also have another brother who specializes in feed production, and in the future we hope to sell feed as well. Rather than running a business with profit fluctuations of "good times are good, bad times are bad," we are trying to produce our own feed and make various efforts to run the farm as stably as possible. Because of the land, it is difficult to expand the scale by increasing the number of cattle, so we would like to improve each person's area of responsibility and make the business grow steadily. 取材を終えて

I got the impression that each family member is doing their job efficiently, with each member doing their own area of expertise and also incorporating advanced technology such as robots. I'll be keeping an eye on Tsuda Farm's future development! Thank you for the interview!
