データ駆動の牧畜

記者「江藤さんのところで行っている牛の管理方法やこだわりについて教えてください。」

江藤さん「はい。最近の円相場の変動により、購入飼料のコストが上昇しているため、自給飼料に切り替えることにしました。自給飼料の導入で最大の課題は農地の確保でしたが、水田農家さんに委託栽培してもらうことで解決しました。彼らに種まきや防除などの管理を行ってもらい、私たちが収穫に行くという形を取っています。これにより、海外に流れていたお金の一部を国内に循環させることができています。」


記者「購入飼料を自給飼料に切り替えることで、コストダウンも図っているんですね。どれくらいの農地を開拓されたのですか？」

江藤さん「年間の延べ面積で言えば、現在は約50ヘクタールほどです。主力作物はデントコーンと飼料用大麦です。新規に参加したいという農家さんも増えており、今後さらに広がる見込みがあります。」


記者「それ以外にこだわっている点はありますか？」

江藤さん「はい、作業を誰でも目で見てわかるようにデータで見える化しています。牛の健康管理には体細胞数のカウンターや血液検査機器を導入し、数値で管理しています。これにより、勘に頼らず正確な治療や予防を行うことができます。」


記者「データ管理には具体的にどのようなツールを使用しているのですか？」

江藤さん「はい。うちではオリオン社のパーラーを使っています。また、カウスカウトという首輪を牛に装着して、活動量や休息時間、発情などを把握しています。データを集め、皆が見られるような形でみんなに展開しています。」

Reporter: "Please tell us about the management method and attention to detail that you use to manage your cattle, Mr. Eto."

Eto: "Yes. Due to recent fluctuations in the yen exchange rate, the cost of purchased feed has risen, so we decided to switch to self-produced feed. The biggest challenge in introducing self-produced feed was securing farmland, but we solved this by having rice paddy farmers grow it on a contract basis. We have them manage the sowing and pest control, and we go and harvest. This allows us to circulate some of the money that was flowing overseas back into the country."

Reporter: "By switching from purchased feed to self-produced feed, you are also trying to reduce costs. How much farmland have you developed?"

Eto: "Currently, in terms of total annual area, it is about 50 hectares. The main crop is den. We use corn and barley for feed. More and more farmers are interested in joining, so we expect the number of farmers to expand even further in the future.


Reporter: "Any other things you are particular about?"

Eto: "Yes, we visualize the work with data so that anyone can see it with their own eyes. We use somatic cell counters and blood testing equipment to manage the health of our cows, and manage it numerically. This allows us to perform accurate treatment and prevention without relying on intuition."


Reporter: "What specific tools do you use to manage data?"

Eto: "Yes. We use Orion's parlour. We also put collars called CowScouts on our cows to keep track of their activity levels, rest times, estrus, and so on. We collect data and share it with everyone so that everyone can see it."

STARが支える牧草収穫

記者「自分の牛の状態に点数をつけるなら何点ですか？」

江藤さん「現状は70点ぐらいですね。うちの牧場では従業員が多く、牛の管理が行き届いています。大きな病気が発生する前に予防的な管理を行っているため、健康管理がしっかりできていると感じています。これが70点の理由です。」

記者「予防的な管理について、具体的にどういったことをされていますか？」

江藤さん「先ほども言ったように、血液検査や体細胞数を測定して乳房炎の早期発見に努めています。また、分娩直後のケアも細やかに行い、健康状態を数値で把握しています。これにより、的確な治療や予防を行っています。」


記者「この70点をさらに向上させるために、今後の課題は何ですか？」

江藤さん「うちはフリーバーン牛舎なので牛舎のキャパと生産性の改善が必須だと考えています。もっと生産性と経済性の高い牛群にしていきたいと思っています。また、夏場の暑熱対策も深刻です。パーラーでの作業後に牛たちを冷やすためのシャワーを設置したり、高齢牛のためのシャワー設備も導入しています。これにより、牛が自由に体を冷やせる環境を整え、ストレスを軽減しています。」


記者「おすすめのアイテムについて教えてください。」

Reporter: "If you were to rate the condition of your cows, how many points would you give them?"

Eto: "Currently, I'd say about 70 points. We have a lot of employees at our farm, and we take good care of our cows. We do preventative care before any serious illnesses occur, so I feel like we're managing their health well. That's why I give them 70 points."


Reporter: "What exactly do you do to preventative care?"

Eto: "As I said before, we try to detect mastitis early by taking blood tests and measuring somatic cell counts. We also provide detailed care right after calving, and keep track of their health in numbers. This allows us to provide accurate treatment and prevention."


Reporter: "What are your future challenges to further improve this 70 points?"

Eto: "We are a freelance farmer. Because it is a barn, we think it is essential to improve the capacity and productivity of the barn. We want to make the herd more productive and economical. We also have serious concerns about the heat in the summer. We have installed showers to cool the cows down after working in the parlor, and we have also introduced shower facilities for older cows. This creates an environment where the cows can freely cool down, reducing stress. ”


Reporter: “What items do you recommend?”

江藤さん「目標にしている方は、同じ福岡県内で酪農をされている今村ふれあい牧場の今村浩星さんです。今村さんはゲノム検査を積極的に取り入れており、牛群のレベルが非常に高く、個体成績も乳量も多いです。管理がとても丁寧で、その姿勢に憧れています。今村さんは年間に200頭以上の牛を管理し、非常にストイックで努力されている方です。獣医さんからも一目置かれているほどです。県内の近い場所にいるので、機会があればもっとお話を伺いたいです。」


記者「江藤さんの座右の銘を教えてください。」

江藤さん「座右の銘は『究極の循環』です。地域で取れた牧草や餌を収穫し、それを牛に与えて牛乳を生産します。その牛乳を使ってイタリア人のシモネさんがチーズを作り、そのチーズは地域で販売されます。また、稲わらを使ってチーズを熟成させ、その稲わらは無農薬で米を作る農家さんの手で育てられたものです。こうして地域全体が循環していくことが、私たちの理想です。」


記者「最後に今後の目標を教えてください。」

江藤さん「新規就農時に行った自給飼料の取り組みはゼロからのスタートで、特に真夏のデントコーン収穫は非常に過酷でした。その時の原動力はやはりこの「究極の循環」を実現し、自分の酪農のレベルアップを夢見ていたからこそだと思います。これからは牛舎内の環境の改善にフォーカスし、牛の生産性を上げていきたいと思っています。」

Reporter: "Please tell us about your mentor or role model."

Eto: "My role model is Hirosei Imamura of Imamura Fureai Farm, who is also a dairy farmer in Fukuoka Prefecture. Imamura actively uses genome testing, and the level of his cows is very high, with individual performance and high milk yields. He manages them very carefully, and I admire his attitude. Imamura manages more than 200 cows a year, and is a very stoic and hard-working person. He is even highly regarded by veterinarians. He lives nearby in the prefecture, so I would like to talk to him more if I have the opportunity."

Reporter: "Please tell us your motto, Eto."

Eto: "My motto is 'ultimate circulation.' In the community, We harvest the grass and feed that we harvest, feed it to the cows, and produce milk. The milk is used to make cheese by Simone, an Italian, which is then sold locally. We also use rice straw to mature the cheese, which is grown by farmers who grow rice without pesticides. Our ideal is for the entire region to circulate in this way.


Reporter: "Finally, please tell us your future goals."

Eto: "When I started farming, I started from scratch with my efforts to produce feed for myself, and harvesting dent corn in midsummer was particularly tough. I think my driving force at the time was my dream of achieving this "ultimate circulation" and improving the level of my dairy farming. From now on, I would like to focus on improving the environment in the cowshed and increase the productivity of the cows."
