太らせるな、育てろ！

記者「弓削さんの牧場では、どんなこだわりを持って牛を飼育されていますか？」

弓削さん「うちは乳量だけに依存せず、牛の状態とボディコンディションスコア（BCS）を見ながら餌の量を決める“個体ごとの細やかな管理”に特に力を入れています。つなぎ牛舎で飼っているので、牛の食欲が落ちていたり、食べ残しがあったりするとすぐに気付くことができるんです。気になる牛は獣医さんにも相談して、体調の変化を早めに察知します。餌の量もその都度調整して、牛が太り過ぎず、BCSが適正になるよう心がけています。これが結果的に健康な乾乳のケアにつながっているんですよ。」

記者「健康的な牛を育成するためには、餌の質や管理はとても大切ですね。」

弓削さん「はい、まさにそうですね。就農したばかりの頃、何頭か牛を倒してしまったことがあったんです。その共通点は、どの牛も太り過ぎていたことでした。それが自分の管理ミスだと気づいてからは、しっかりと餌を調整して太らせすぎないように意識しました。その結果、牛が倒れることも減ったんです。だから餌の管理は本当に大切だと思っています。」


記者「他にこだわっているケアの部分はありますか？」

弓削さん「分娩後のケアには特に気をつけています。分娩直後には、カルシウム剤のカルチャージやキャップマン、ビタミン剤のビタラップを与えています。もし食いが悪かったりしたらプロピレングリコールも使います。特に3産目以降の牛は立てなくなるリスクが高いので、血液検査をしてカルシウムやリンの数値を確認し、不安があれば獣医さんに相談してケアするようにしています。」


記者「分娩後のケアがしっかりしていると、牛の健康や乳量にもつながるんですね。絞り方にも工夫があるのでしょうか？」

弓削さん「はい、分娩後すぐに一気に絞ると、カルシウムが急に下がってしまうので危険です。だから最初は様子を見ながら少しずつ絞るようにしています。乳房炎にも注意しつつ、牛の体調を見ながら量を加減するんです。これも、牛に無理をさせず健康を守るための工夫ですね。」


記者「コスト管理などは、どのようにされていますか？」

弓削さん「うちは飼料粕を積極的に利用しています。飼料粕は安価なのに、エネルギーやタンパク、ミネラルがしっかり摂れるんですよ。特に醤油粕や焼酎粕を使っていて、ビートパルプに混ぜて水と一緒にふやかして与えています。嗜好性も高くて、食いつきがいいんです。周りの農家さんではあまり使っていないようですが、うちでは飼料と濃厚飼料の中間のような、「いいとこ取り」の大事な飼料になっています。」

Reporter: "What kind of attention do you pay to raising cows at your farm, Mr. Yuge?"

Yuge: "We don't rely solely on milk production. We focus on "meticulous individual management," where we decide how much to feed them by looking at their condition and body condition score (BCS). We keep them in a tie-up barn, so we can immediately notice if a cow's appetite is declining or if they are leaving food uneaten. If there are any cows that are of concern, we consult with a veterinarian to detect any changes in their health condition early on. We also adjust the amount of feed each time, so that the cows do not become too fat and have an appropriate BCS. This ultimately leads to healthy care for the dry period."


Reporter: "In order to raise healthy cows, the quality of the feed and management are very important."

Yuge: "Yes, that's exactly right. When I first started farming, I had several cows collapse. The common thing about them was that they were all overweight. After I realized that this was due to my management mistake, I made sure to adjust the feed carefully so that they didn't get too fat. As a result, the number of cows collapsing has decreased. So I think that feed management is really important."

Reporter: "Are there any other aspects of care that you pay particular attention to?"

Yuge: "I'm particularly careful about post-calving care. Immediately after calving, I give them calcium supplements. We feed them Lecharge, Capman, and the vitamin Vitarapu. If they don't eat well, we also use propylene glycol. Cows that have given birth three or more times are at high risk of not being able to stand, so we do blood tests to check their calcium and phosphorus levels, and if we have any concerns, we consult with a veterinarian to provide care."


Reporter: "Proper post-partum care leads to better cow health and milk production. Are there any special techniques for milking?"

Yuge: "Yes, if you milk the cows all at once right after giving birth, the calcium levels will drop suddenly, which is dangerous. That's why we try to milk them little by little at first, while watching how they do. Mastitis We adjust the amount while keeping an eye on the cow's physical condition, while also paying attention to the amount of food we give them. This is also a way to protect the cow's health without overdoing it."


Reporter: "How do you manage costs?"

Yuge: "We actively use feed meal. Feed meal is inexpensive, but it's packed with energy, protein, and minerals. We especially use soy sauce lees and shochu lees, which we mix with beet pulp and soften with water before feeding it to the cows. They're highly palatable and the cows eat them up. It seems like other farmers around us don't use it much, but for us it's an important feed that's like a cross between feed and concentrated feed, taking the best of both worlds. "

乳頭に優しさという技術を

記者「もし自分の牛に点数をつけるとしたら、何点をつけますか？」

弓削さん「年中同じ牛舎で、暑い日も寒い日も頑張ってくれているので、本当は気持ち的には100点をつけてあげたいです。でも現実には、夏場の乳量低下や食欲の落ち込みもあって、まだまだ伸びしろがあると考えています。だから80点ですね。逆に言えば、残りの20点分は伸ばせる可能性があるということなので、これからもいろいろ工夫して100点を目指していきたいと思っています。」​


記者「100点に近づけるためには、具体的にどんなことが必要だと思いますか？」

弓削さん「まずは暑熱対策です。うちは扇風機の台数や位置、風向き、風の強さを細かく調整して、牛が少しでも快適に過ごせる環境を作ろうとしています。風が当たっていない場所では餌食いも落ちるので、先日も風向きを変えて対応しました。牛のストレスを減らせば、夏場のパフォーマンスも少しずつ上がってくるんじゃないかと期待しています。」


記者「他にも、暑熱対策以外で取り組んでいることや使っているものはありますか？」

弓削さん「分娩前後のケアも重要なので、最近は中国ベントナイト鉱業の『乳デールチューベン』というバイパスサプリを取り入れています。このサプリは、分娩前後の自然な立ち上がりや、牛本来の能力の発揮をサポートしてくれるもので、メチオニン、コリン、ナイアシン、ビタミンA・D・E群、ミネラルなどが含まれています。牛に無理をさせずに、回復をスムーズにし、次の発情や繁殖に向けた良い状態づくりに役立っていると感じています。分娩の前後約1か月間与えていて、これで分娩後に立てなくなるケースも減りました。繁殖成績の向上にもつながる可能性があるので、今後も継続して様子を見ていきたいですね。」

Reporter: "If you were to give your cow a score, how many points would you give it?"

Yuge: "They work hard in the same barn all year round, on hot and cold days, so I'd really like to give them 100 points. But in reality, there's a drop in milk production and appetite in the summer, so I think there's still room for improvement. So I'd give them 80 points. On the other hand, that means there's a chance they can improve by the remaining 20 points, so I'd like to keep trying different things to aim for 100 points."

Reporter: "What specifically can we do to get closer to 100 points?" Do you think that's necessary?"

Yuge: "First of all, we have to take measures against the heat. We try to make the environment as comfortable as possible for the cows by carefully adjusting the number of electric fans, their positions, the direction of the wind, and the strength of the wind. In places where there is no wind, the cows don't eat as much, so we changed the direction of the wind the other day. We hope that if we can reduce the stress of the cows, their performance in the summer will gradually improve."


Reporter: "Are there any other things you are doing or using other than measures against the heat?"

Yuge: "Care before and after calving is also important, so recently we have been using "Milkdale" from China Bentonite Mining Co., Ltd. We have been using a bypass supplement called "Tuben". This supplement helps cows to get up naturally before and after calving and to demonstrate their natural abilities, and contains methionine, choline, niacin, vitamins A, D, and E, and minerals. It helps the cows recover smoothly without forcing them, and I feel it helps them to be in good condition for the next estrus and breeding. We give it to the cows for about a month before and after calving, and this has reduced the number of cases where they are unable to stand up after calving. It may also lead to improved breeding performance, so we would like to continue to monitor the situation in the future. "

記者「弓削さんが尊敬している人、師匠と呼べる方はどなたでしょうか？」

弓削さん「やっぱり祖父と父ですね。祖父は、今のように機械や設備が整っていない時代に、1から牛舎を作り上げた人で、その姿勢は本当に尊敬しています。父は、自衛隊を辞めて酪農の道に入り、怪我や体調不良でも休まず仕事に向かう姿を間近で見てきました。自分が酪農を魅力的な仕事だと思えるようになったのも、父の頑張る姿があったからだと思っています。」


記者「今も一緒に酪農をされているんですか？」

弓削さん「はい、今も一緒にやっています。祖父もまだ朝の牛洗いに参加してくれていて、本当に助かっています。毎朝、父と二人で牛を洗っていて、これがうちの牛がきれいで健康な理由の一つかもしれません。続けるのは大変ですが、これをやることで牛の状態が良くなっていると実感しているので、やめられないですね。祖父の代から続くこの習慣が、今の弓削牧場の成績につながっているのだと思います。」


記者「そうした家族の支えの中で、弓削さんご自身は今後どんな目標を持っておられるんですか？」

弓削さん「今は、無理に頭数を増やすよりも、今いる牛一頭一頭の質を高めていくことが大事だと考えています。共進会にも出場しているので、そうした場でも結果を出せる牛を育てたいです。経営面でも、突然の支出やリスクに備え、安定した経営を目指しています。得た利益は、家族や酪農仲間のために使い、周りを幸せにできるようにしたいという思いがあります。」


記者「最後に、弓削さんが大事にしている座右の銘は何でしょうか？」

弓削さん「『準備なくして成果なし』です。中学時代に野球部の監督に教わった言葉ですが、今でも心に残っています。日々の作業一つ一つに意味を持たせ、準備を怠らなければ結果はついてくると信じています。牛を洗ったり、餌管理を工夫したり、すべてが安定した経営につながる大切な準備です。酪農仲間とのイベント活動でも、事前の準備をしっかり行っているからこそ、成功できていると実感しています。」

Reporter:“Who do you respect,who can you call your mentor?”

Yuge: “My grandfather and father, of course. My grandfather built a cowshed from scratch in an era when there were not as many machines and facilities as there are today, and I really respect his attitude. My father left the Self-Defense Forces to go into dairy farming, and I saw him go to work without taking a day off even when he was injured or in poor health, so I was impressed by his attitude. I think it was because of my father's hard work that I started to think of dairy farming as an attractive job."


Reporter: "Are you still working together on dairy farming?"

Yuge: "Yes, we are still working together. My grandfather still helps out by washing the cows in the mornings, which is a great help. My father and I wash the cows every morning, and this may be one of the reasons why our cows are so clean and healthy. It's hard to keep doing it, but I can't stop because I feel that doing this improves the condition of the cows. This habit, which has been passed down since my grandfather's generation, is what has led to the current success of Yuge Farm. I think so. ”


Reporter: “With the support of your family, what goals do you have for the future, Yuge?”

Yuge: “Right now, I think it’s more important to improve the quality of each of the cows we have, rather than trying to forcefully increase the number of cows. We also participate in dairy farming exhibitions, so I want to raise cows that can perform well in those events. In terms of management, I’m aiming for stable management, in preparation for unexpected expenses and risks. I want to use the profits I make for my family and fellow dairy farmers, and make those around me happy.”


Reporter: “Finally, what is your motto that you hold dear? "

Yuge: "No results without preparation." This is a phrase that I learned from my baseball team coach in middle school, and it still sticks in my mind. I believe that if you give meaning to each and every task you do every day and don't neglect your preparations, results will come. Washing the cows, devising feed management, and all of these are important preparations that lead to stable management. Even when we hold events with fellow dairy farmers, I feel that we are successful because we prepare well in advance."
